I'm a french retired sailing captain living alone on my 57 feet boat in paradise....
It was an incredible experience - our own private boat and skipper for the first time! The sky view in the night was incredible and we slept like babies in the cosy ship :) Michel is a very nice French sailor that helped us a lot in organizing tours and showed us the best places of the city! Just make sure that you are comfortable with being on a boat - you have to shower outside and it can smell like gazoline a little bit - but once you are okay with that, it is the best way to enjoy Paraty! :)
PS: Be sure to fix meeting hours with Michel in advance, because cell phone reception is very poor there :)
My girlfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Michel. Michel almost immediately recognized us at the bus station and helped transport our luggage to his boat and made sure to take us to a great little lunch spot on our way there.
The boat is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk on you are almost blown away by the view from the deck of his ship of not only the city, but the entire bay and surrounding hills. The quarters on the ship are pretty spacious and in the evening you feel the gentle sway of the boat peacefully rock you to sleep.
Michel was a great host and made us these amazing breakfasts (coffee, toast, cheeses, vegetables, and lots of fresh fruit) every morning that were prepared right after we woke up. He also invited us out to an amazing night of Samba in the town of Paraty that was probably one of the best live Samba experiences I have had during my time in Brazil. In addition, he had a number of great restaurant suggestions and knowledgeable of the other activities that existed not just in Paraty, but in the neighboring towns as well.
All in all he was a very sweet host. Highly recommend and we will definitely look him up in the future when we come back to Paraty!
Will write review later
Great place to stay in Paraty! You wake up on the boat and can jump directly into the water. Afterwards you have a huge breakfast with lots of fresh fruits. Michele is a really friendly and easygoing host who gives you a lot of tips for the best places to go during the day and eat and drink at night. I would definitely recommend it to you. An accomodation you never get again!!
We had such an incredible time on Michel's boat. We didn't quite know what to expect before we got there, but there couldn't have been a more memorable way to spend our last couple of days in Brazil.
We highly recommend this to everyone. To wake up in paradise, jump from your bed straight in to the warm sea, eat a huge delicious breakfast prepared by Michel, and lie on deck watching the world go by and the stars at night. Perfect.
Staying w/Michel was a great way to discover Paraty. Relaxing on the boat was exactly what I needed. Easy access to town and local beaches when I wanted with advice and pointers. Met lots of interesting people through Michel as well. Great time all around.
We had a great time on Michel's boat in Paraty Bay. Every day we went to incredible beaches and islands. The boat is beautiful and very comfortable. There's lots of shade on deck and comfortable places to sit. Interior spaces are tight but, after all, it's a boat. My kids loved the bunk beds in one room and my wife and I were very comfortable in another. Michel makes a great breakfast. We had other meals at seafood restaurants around the bay. They were generally good but a bit expensive. If you don't like fish and seafood, you better like rice and beans.
Overall I recommend a stay on the Horizonte Azul. We had a great time sailing with Michel.
