I am from Pender Island, off the west coast of BC. (If you take the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria on Vancouver Island, it is the second island on your left!). I look out the window to the "Salish Sea". My second Island home is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean-- Kauai! They feel linked to me. Both are beautiful and nature still breaths through them! Both too are lush. One with areas of tropical rain-forest and the other complete with west-coast rain-forest.
I am fortunate that Pender Island is so environmentally conscious. We own a fully electric car and there are many charging stations on the island. We have no garbage collection here, and instead a wonderful recycle station. The school has nut trees, a community garden and bees on the roof. Many people grow their own food. We share access to the private "Ginalini Gin Bottle Bay", (yes I made that name up, but our beach doesn't seem to have an official name on the maps), with only one neighbour, Hope Bay Farm. You will hear the sheep and chickens if you stay! It is possible to launch a kayak or paddle board right off our low bank waterfront yard. Personally, I keep my SUP on Kauai for the warmer waters! However, our local swimming hole at Magic Lake gets very comfortable in the summer months.
I worked as a clinical counsellor for the school district part-time and had a small private EAP practice. Both positions I have put (permanently?) on leave, as I am spending half my time on Kauai! (Airbnb has assisted me in the transition away from the standard 9-5). I am switching my focus over to offer counselling/coaching online, so 'flexibility' is my middle name. Soon I will be able to Airbnb a small self-contained suite in Hawaii when I am there!
I teach yoga and if you are staying here on a day I teach, you are welcome to join class for free as my guest. I also offer CranioSacral, SomatoEmotional Release and Reflexology. I often do healing work (for free, or as an exchange) as I travel. I know it is not "me", and the process never ceases to amaze -- the powers that flow through me are quite simply awesome and I feel privileged to be a witness to it. Anyway, suffice to say, I am hugely sensitive to "energies"... those of people and places.
Indeed, I love to meet and hear people's stories, learn about alternate realities, travel and dance. I will happily participate in a step class (I use to teach fitness for years), a Zumba or 5 Rhythms/Ecstatic Dance session. (We have a 'free dance/Ecstatic Dance' on Pender once a week called 'Spirit Moves' if you are interested)? I am a member of the Canadian Questers and through the Tara Dhatu society I was able to travel to India in 2013.
My newest obsession is a plan to take ecstatic dance facilitator training in Bali. Fingers crossed, I could work that in with attendance at the Bali Spirit Fest Spring 2016!
Mmmm. It would be my dream to travel to all the sacred places of the world in this life time! I hope to co-facilitate, or even lead Ginalini yoga/dance retreats and sacred journeys one day. And when I'm too old to dance and travel perhaps I will settle into quiet reflection and write down some of those life stories?
In summary, my over-riding value is to do 99 year old Auntie Mary's motto justice. She would raise her glass and announce-- "LIFE IS FOR LIVING!"
Yes, at the end of the day, if you have had a laugh and/or made someone else smile, then you've done well in my books too!
I look forward to meeting YOU. Cheers, Gina.
