Ron and Christine were great hosts. I had a little trouble finding the place. Hint: don't follow Google Maps it takes you to a dead end.
I enjoyed the property and talking to Ron and Christine. The place was just as advertised, and I'd most definitely stay there again.
Christine and her casita was wonderful to visit! I felt completely comfortable there. She greeted me warmly and even found a blender for me to use while there at my request. The casita is cozy and comfortable and the surroundings are beautiful and artsy. She gave me a tour at one point during my stay to see the various wood working she does and was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I loved being there and would happily visit it again... Her artistic touch shines through in the casita and the surrounding property. Thank you Christine! :-)
This place was exactly what we wanted. It was a weekend getaway into the cool riparian habitat of Tumacocori. We went birding in the mornings and evening and enjoyed dining and wandering around in Tubac. THe house was cute and comfortable and the experience was great.
The Casita was just as described. The space is comfortable and roomy. We enjoyed exploring the hiking trails, visiting the Mission, and spending time at the State Park in Tubac. All in all a great place to stay.
My wife and I stayed in the “large one-bedroom casita” for the month of February, 2015.
To see a video of the drive into the property, go to YouTube and type into the search box “Entering Sisco Property Tumacacori AZ.”
Ron and Christine Sisco were very friendly, helpful hosts.
The casita itself is about the size of a small-to-middle-sized condo. For example the combination kitchen and living space measures about 22 x 11 ft. The bedroom is very adequate, measuring 14 x 11 feet.
The unit has the accessories one would expect in a typical condo. In addition, a clothes washer and dryer and a nice swimming pool and grill are available. The nights can get cold. The casita is heated by two small space heaters in the kitchen/living area and another in the bedroom. Using timers to start the living-area heaters before rising in the morning helps.
Because the unit is older, it has the little quirks you might expect but nothing serious. If you’re looking for a place with a homey character, this fits your bill. The inside is clean, painted in attractive, Southwestern colors and decorated with Southwestern art. Although the unit shares an end wall with another casita, we never heard a sound from the other unit.
There is a lot to do in the area. The Anza trail is a few yards from the property. Nearby Tubac is an artists’ colony of galleries and shops. A grocery store is located there. Two favorite restaurants of ours were Tubac Jack’s and the Italian Peasant.
Rio Rico is a thriving town to the south. We recommend Nickel’s Diner. A grocery store is located in the same mall. Further south is Nogales, a larger town with stores like Safeway, Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Patagonia, east of Nogales, has the scenic Geoffrey Platts trail.
A few things you might want to be aware of:
The Tumacacori area is situated on Arizona’s high desert, which is populated with mesquite, juniper and other trees, not the large cacti found on the lower desert to the north. The area does, however, have a beauty of its own. The mountains are gorgeous.
There is no view of the mountains from the large casita we were in. The property, however, is quite pleasant. The large trees are very beautiful.
A short distance from the casita is the workshop where the Siscos produce wood products under the name Treestump Woodcrafts. You can hear the tools running. Most of the time we were not bothered by the noise.
The wifi is very slow. We used our smart phones as 4G hot spots when we needed a faster connection.
As of this writing, the TV in the casita is not a flat-screen.
There is no cable TV; however, the picture from the air-wave channels was quite clear.
To summarize, we stayed a whole month, and at no time did we regret our choice.
The casita was private and comfortable and well equipped. Christine was very helpful with a knowledge of the area and provided current local media to guide us on our weekend touring.
The Wi-fi was intermittent. In their defense we were told it works best by the pool but it rained both nights we stayed.
The casita was exactly as described. We arrived shortly after other guests had left but we were welcome to unload our things and walk around the property. There were people around but we felt very private. We are making plans now to return.
Christine and her husband were most welcoming and their proximity to the national park at Tumacacori was perfect. The provided wine, coffee, and fresh fruit were unexpected and greatly appreciated. We are outdoor enthusiasts and enjoyed the nearby hiking trails and bird watching opportunities. Even in January we added two more birds to our life lists, both directly in front of the casita! This was a very quiet, clean, and comfy stay for us.
Exactly as described. We had a great experience--comfortable, clean, affordable, homey. Quite pleased with our decision to stay there.
A very unique experience in a great location. Wonderful and talented hosts! Thank you for the accommodations with a full kitchen.
Christine rented my flat for 5 days for 4 people over Thanksgiving. From the moment we met she was hostile and rude, expressing disappointment with aspects of my home which had been clearly represented in my airbnb profile. She paid for 4 guests but for most of her stay there were 6. (This was confirmed by talking to her friends). She ignored my polite email and text messages attempting to resolve this issue, instead leaving me a very negative review on airbnb. Her friends were lovely and I wish I could be writing this review for them instead, but unfortunately Christine was the person to make the booking. I have never before had to deal with such an unpleasant guest and am sorry to have to be writing this.
