Lawrence's cottage was the perfect place to spend a weekend. I booked it a few days before my girlfriend and I wanted to get away, and Lawrence was the most responsive AirBnB host that I've dealt with. He responded to my questions within 30" and I was booked with instructions almost immediately. The cottage was immaculately clean and neat, and was well stocked with pantry items like (good) coffee! It's a great place for 2 couples and the bedrooms are spacious and offer plenty of privacy.
There was more than enough firewood to make a fire each night. Mona the cat was a great and pleasant addition to our stay! I would definitely come back here in the future.
Larry's house was fantastic for the weekend. It exceeded all of our expectations and we would happily return in the future. The house was clean, easy to get to, and Larry was very responsive to all our questions. Mona the cat was nice to have around as well!
Easy to get to, unbelievably cozy and quaint we had a fantastic New Years Eve at the cottage. The main room is where we spent most of our time parked in front of the huge field stone hearth, surrounded by a vast library of classical music, tons of great books and a film collection of noir that would impress most film snobs! Mona that cat was a nice presence, very chatty! We unfortunately didn't get to meet Larry as he was out of town but he was great with communication. Highly recommended.
The cabin was an absolute beautiful space for me and my family to spend Christmas at. Mona the cat is a funny character that loves to be pet. The two fireplaces were perfect during the snow storm.
The communication with Lawrence was superb from start to finish. The photos on the website do not do justice for what Lawrence has created for himself in this beautiful home. Such an easy find from the roads, everything is under 10 minutes from his location. The cat is a sweetheart, quite the snuggler. The home is the perfect blend of cozy, modern and timeless. I cannot wait to return. If you pass this house / experience up, you would be foolish.
Our stay at Larry's cottage was incredible! The cottage itself looks even better than the photos, and Mona (the house cat) is adorable. It is secluded up in the woods, and just minutes from a ton of great restaurants and activities. It has a very comfortable vibe, making for a very relaxing getaway. We would love to stay again. Definitely recommend!
Staying at Larry's cottage was a great and affordable addition to our labor day weekend trip. His house was beautiful and incredibly clean.
It was equal parts convenient to getting on the road and tucked away offering a nice retreat for the weekend. We definitely recommend staying here if you're in the area.
His cat was pretty great too. I'm usually allergic to cats and didn't have any issues all weekend.
The tap water has a hint of sulfur to it. Some reviews suggested that the odor was concerning, but I actually found it was incredibly mild, if noticeable at all compared to other times I've showered with sulfur in the water. The smell is also gone within minutes after you shower.
When we had to cancel our reservation last minute due to a death in the family, Larry, in a gesture of gallantry and kindness, did not charge us one night's rent which our last minute cancellation would have forfeited. Instead, he offered to apply it to another weekend from which we have just returned. Larry's cottage is lovely, tucked away on a quiet street in the woods. The home is cozy, spacious and beautifully decorated. Mona the cat is a delight, both lovey and independent.
It was all shaping up to be a lovely weekend until we turned on the faucet in the kitchen and out came yellow, sulfuric, foul-smelling water. We were shocked. Assuming it was a rusty pipe, we tried the shower - same thing. Every water source emanated the nauseating smell of rotten eggs which filled the cottage. On clarification with Larry, it turns out that the place draws water from a well and the sulfur extraction system must have broken while we were there. Although Larry assured us that the water was perfectly safe (which we absolutely believed - it smelled and felt just like the water at natural hot springs which we have frequented), you just can't underestimate the necessity for pure, clean water when brushing one's teeth or washing one's hands, much less drinking or showering. In fact, despite a heat wave and high humidity inside and outside, the four of us did not shower for the whole weekend for fear of smelling like rotten eggs for the rest of the day.
I guess it was just our bad luck because, according to Larry and so many previous reviews, when the sulfur-extraction system is working, it works very well. In the end, we had a so-so experience.
Wonderfully relaxing little cottage. My fiance and I spent an evening here. So nice to be able to stay in a charming cottage only a few minutes from really amazing food in Kingston. Then to come home and have a drink in front of the fireplace. Mona (that cat) is super charming and friendly. To top it off, in the morning, looking out the bedroom window a young fawn (still with spots) walked up on to the back deck and then finally ran off. All in all a magical place.
We very much regret the need to leave a less than favorable review for Mr. O'Toole's cottage. Although reservations and communication with the owner were very easy and accessible, the condition of the cottage upon our arrival was a problem. We are not neat freaks, by any means, but it was as if the owner had hurriedly left 5 minutes before our arrival and didn't realize guests were arriving. There was toothpaste spittle in the sink, leftover brewed coffee in the coffee pot, and worst of all when we turned on the water or flushed the toilet, a very acrid sulphur smell permeated the whole house. We called the owner to report the smell, and he said that happens sometimes when it rains. However, when it stopped raning, and beautiful sunny days followed, the smell remained. In an earlier post, the owner said a sulphur remediation system had been installed, but it was clearly not working. None of us took showers, for fear our hair would smell like sewage. We couldn't wait to end out stay. We rarely leave such negative reviews, but the condition of the cottage was simply not acceptable!!!
