Best. Location. Ever. We used the bus/metro only two or three times over the course of five days, as everything was in walking distance!
Also the host, Diletta, was amazing! She came by to welcome us to her home and gave us the breakdown on the area, where to eat and what events were going on. The apartment was cozy and comfortable, with a big TV for those nights when we were too tired to go back out and instead watched World Cup soccer (football).
Diletta has the perfect location with her mini-flat! The reservation was easy, but finding the place once we arrived was a little more of a challenge. Diletta gave great directions on how to arrive at the bus stop closest to her place. Once there, the directions were a bit hard to follow...especially when most people don't want to speak English to help you.
Here are our suggestions to make it easier to find: get off the 40 Express bus at the Argentina stop, you can go down either street that flanks the bus stop (when you face the bookstore & your back is to the road...but the one on the right is closer), when you reach the Pantheon on your left the Cafe de Orro should be directly in front of you in the righthand corner where two roads come together...yellow sign (or to the right if the Pantheon is on your right), turn right down the street where Cafe de Orro is on the corner & the restaurant to pick up your keys will be on your right. The flats inside are not well marked, but Diletta's has a giant number 3 spray painted in red on the door. (Hope this makes it easier to find for others.)
When we arrived we noticed the floors were dirty, so I emailed Diletta to advise her & she not only called me to ask details but also had the cleaning service come to clean them right away. The flat has a lot of narrow stairs (into the flat & up to the kitchen & bathroom area), so you need to be careful. The bathroom opens up to a window across from the flat & has no curtains & the shower is made of glass brick that shows into the entire flat, so if you aren't comfortable showering in front of the people you're traveling with beware of that as well. The internet was limited to 500MB/day, but we weren't sure how that was measured (by 24 hours or by the time we arrived, etc) & it went out a couple of times, but my husband is a computer guy so he got it working again. Also, because the building is so old, we think there may be an electrical issue. Some guests before us said the power has gone out & Diletta mentioned in her house rules how to fix that if it happened. It didn't happen to us, but the lights flickered & went out several times (came back on later).
Overall, we would stay here again just for the amazing location & the attentiveness of Diletta. Although we didn't meet her in person, she was always available via email.
I stayed in Diletta's apartment for a whole week. The place is perfect. First: the location. You can reach Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Piazza Colonna, Castel Sant'Angelo in just 10 min. walk. Second: the flat is clean and exactly as shown on photos. I wasn't able to meet Dlietta personally, but she was very helpful and attentive. Though my flight was late several hours, she left a key in the nearby bar to some trusted bartender and I could easily get to the flat, despite the late hour. I definitely recommend it ! Thanks, Diletta :)
Diletta is a great host and the communication with her was very good. The place is very convenient and location is by far the best thing. The apartment is small and there is not natural light but is fine to sleep and spend most of the time outdoors. Perfect place to visit the city and enjoy the Roman experience.
Diletta's apartment is perfectly located in the one of the most lively street of a touristic area. Just few steps from the Pantheon and about 20min by walk to the Coliseum.
The flat is charming and very functional. There are all the things required to enjoy a stay dedicated to visit Rome. There are many nice restaurants and good ice-cream shops next to the building.
We didn't have the chance to meet physically Diletta but she give us all the informations we needed : restaurants, supermarkets, touristic places... She was very nice with us. Thanks to her we really loved our stay in this amazing city. We will definitely come back.
We certainly advice you to rent her flat if you want to stay in the heart of Rome !
Cannot say enough good things about this apartment and hosts. The location in the heart of Rome was incredible! The bed is comfortable and the ambiance with the courtyard will make you feel like a native Roman. Loved it! Forget the few comments about not enough light. If you are here you will be out seeing the life of Rome, narrow streets, small shops, great dining choices a block walk to main thoroughfares. Come home at night enjoy the computer and/or watch television. Go to sleep and look at the old wooden cross beam ceiling and feel the history. Suitable for all ages. Diletta and Maria, thank you very much. I already recommend you to all of my friends.
We loved our stay in Diletta's flat. Everything about this place is great, it's small and cosy but has everything you may need. It's decorated tastefully with tons of character. There's not much daylight due to small windows but we were not often there during the day anyway so it didn't bother us too much. And of course the most amazing thing about it is the LOCATION! The apartment is literally steps away from Pantheon, outside you find few superb restaurants with really friendly staff and delicious food. I couldn't recommend it enough.
Diletta was very flexible with our arrival/departure, I hope I will be back in Rome and if so, I'm staying in her flat again!
Thanks so much for a great and affordable experience , Marta xx
Location, Location, Location!!!
This flat is in one of the most active parts of the city, located steps from the Pantheon and about a 5 min walk from the Trevi Fountain. I can't imagine finding a place with a better location.
The flat itself is small. For one or two people I would think that it is more than manageable while you're in Rome.
The somewhat negative and a little advice: It needs a little TLC. It has a bit of a mold problem and smelled like it had been closed up for a while. Musty and damp.
My arrival was less than smooth. Diletta was unavailable so based on other reviews I spoke with the people in the restaurant downstairs. At first they gave me the wrong keys and weren't able to tell me which apt to go to. So I was randomly trying to open apt doors with no luck. I went back down and they gave me a different set of keys and an older woman accompanied me. She knew which apt it was and was able to get the door open. So you know, you go up the stairs and it's the first door on your right, on the landing. You will pass two other apts on your left and then this one. None of the apts are labeled very well. It could probably do with something on the door as a marker. Also, getting the door open can be tricky. The key needs to be turned to the left and you need to push on the door to free the lock.
One other thing to note, there is a switch the upper right of the door when you get in. This is the boiler. It needs to be switched on for hot water.
The apt was as clean as it could be and I had no issues with the bed or the shower.
The layout is interesting. The size for me was fine but BE AWARE that there are NARROW TILED STEPS up to the bathroom! I can't emphasize enough that this place is not appropriate for older people who might need to hold railings for balance or children! You have to take great caution when entering and leaving the bathroom especially after a shower so you don't slip and fall down the steps.
Enough with the negative, I would absolutely stay here again! The place is in an amazing location and perfect for anyone who is looking for a great little apt while in Rome.
2 Things are very Important when you are renting apartnents with Airbnb. Location and communication. although we didn't get to meet Diletta, the communication with her before and during our stay was perfect. she answered every question and replied very fast. the good things about the apartment besides the location was the wifi internet, hot shower and a large comfortable bed. the not so good was the humidity and no fresh air from the outside. I would recommend this apartment for people who are planing only to sleep in it. the overall experience was very good.
