I am 67, retired, a professor of psychology and international relations, Webster University, Geneva, CH. Throughout my international career (outside of Geneva), I have been a therapist in private practice or working for the UN on short term assignments. As a retiree, I am now a "rentie" managing our own rental properties. I am BOTH a HOST and GUEST on airbnb, for many years now. I am an expatriate (american) with primary residence in Bangkok, Thailand, now living in Paris as a secondary home. I have lived, studied and worked outside of the USA for 40 years. My family: a spouse who is retired United Nations, World Health Organization (OMS) and ONUSIDA (UNAIDS) and 2 wonderful dogs. My spouse continues to work as an HIV/AIDS consultant, right now in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. In 2015 he will continue as professor of public health in Monrovia, Liberia and is a technical consultant to Ministry of Health in Liberia. He is part of the family when not on assignment. We have 2 small wonderful dogs who are part of our requirements on AIRBNB.
We own and rent fully furnished high standard, expertly maintained condos in Washington DC and Bangkok, in addition to an apartment building in the USA. Real estate is our second interest and expertise. Our standards as guests are as high as our standards for hosting. We care for and respect all homes where we stay.
Comfort and taste are part of what we seek along with being stalwart foodies, so a fully equipped, well maintained kitchen is usually a high priority. Our homes are of high standard, always fairly priced and while we understand cultural differences in taste and style especially in France, we do expect honesty in advertising and fairness in prices.
With Airbnb it is my general practice to book with hosts who are older and more mature. I find this population offer homes that are usually well maintained, more comfortable, better furnished and of higher standard.
We have lived in Paris and know it fairly well. We owned a maison secondaire in Southern France for many years, so are somewhat familiar with French homes and the Parisian market in general.
