Fabulous space and amazing host! He had the fridge stocked which was a nice little welcome, and there were fresh flowers in all of the rooms! The location is incredible, mere steps away from the urban wine trail! Really amazing listing
We loved the light, design, outdoor space, location, and privacy afforded by this lovely loft. If we lived in Santa Barbara...it would be here!
This loft was like a dream for me. It was so bright, clean and luxurious that I did not want to leave. The loft was like stepping into an architectural magazine spread! Karl was extremely helpful. The Funk Zone is the place to be. We walked a few blocks to the beach and/or a few blocks to downtown. I have done many Airbnb places and this was the best!
Terrific experience in a beautiful loft. Karl was a great host and the location was wonderful.
When i saw the photos and location of Karl's amazing loft in the Funk Zone (urban wine trail area, 3 blocks to beach and 1.5 to train station), i knew we had to try it out for our weekend getaway in Santa Barbara. And to our pleasant surprise, the space and accoutrements were even more delightful than photos could convey. Same goes for Karl. He greeted us by the garage where we had secure underground parking. Then we received an extremely thorough tour of the loft, amenities and guidebooks and magazines for the neighborhood and region.
Karl made us feel completely comfortable. When he left, we felt immediately at home in the modern and spacious digs... enjoying cocktails on the great patio, making dinner in the fully-equipped kitchen, and taking to the fun streets of SB at night.
The bed and bedding were super lux and cozy. But be careful not to whack your shins on the wooden platform of the bed ;).
Karl provides abundant closet space, fridge space, a radddd bathroom, and views into the mountains from the patio. He left some helpful basic supplies like coffee, juice, almond milk, and water. We also had fun drinking our aprés-bike-ride cocktails from his madonna inn chalices!
you can't beat the location if you want quick beach access and town access. If you're into wine, tasting rooms about in the funk zone, including a distilled spirits tasting room (the first in SB!)
All in, you're looking at about 315 per night on weekends, which seems high, but compared to anything comparable in town with kitchen, patio, views and impeccable service, it's a value. Especially when you consider the charm, details, and location.
not only will we be back, but we have already recommended it to friends.
Bravo, Karl! Next time we would love to host a cat ;))
Wish we could have stayed longer! Located in the middle of a bustling neighborhood of cool shops, restaurants, tasting rooms and art galleries, the loft itself is a lovely, quiet oasis. It felt great to come home to such a bright, spacious, and well-appointed space. Nothings says welcome like warm floors and a soaking tub ;) Karl was a phenomenal host, providing many thoughtful touches like fresh fruit, fresh OJ, almond milk, and nibbles in the pantry (and we thought we’d have to hit a nearby grocery store—nope!). This was our first time using AirBnb and Karl was very responsive to questions before and during our visit. On top of his great suggestions for things to see/do in the area, he left us a wealth of brochures and magazines. We regularly enjoy visiting the Central Coast, but Karl and his loft were particularly great ambassadors for Santa Barbara and The Funk Zone.
Karl's Funk Zone loft is an exceptional accommodation in an exciting Santa Barbara neighborhood. It's a spacious stay for two with a handsome and creatively designed floor plan and comfortable amenities. We found many places to eat close by, but also enjoyed cooking in the beautiful kitchen with locally sourced ingredients from the farmer's market a few blocks away. There is great walking in all directions... a few blocks to the wharf and ocean beaches and to lower State Street restaurants and shopping. Wine tasting is everywhere around you. Karl is an excellent host... we can't recommend this loft highly enough. We will be back!
Our time in Santa Barbara was amazing! The location of the loft was perfect. Walking distance from downtown and right by the beach. Karl was very welcoming and made himself available for whatever we may have needed. His suggestions for activities were great and we were able to do some of the things he suggested. The loft itself was clean and just what we were looking for on our weekend away from home!
Karl was great and very accommodating. We met him as soon as we got there to get the keys, and he showed us around the loft and helped us with any questions we had, and he was very helpful with telling us about the area and told us about some good restaurants to check out. His loft was so cozy and warm. It had everything we needed. We cooked on the grill he had on the patio and used his french press in the mornings. He really had everything we have at home so it was very easy to adjust ;) you can walk everywhere which was a must for us because we didn't want to have to drive on our vacation and the area is so quite at night which was lovely. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was my favorite part. I will definitely vacation at Karl's loft again.
Karl's place was great. We spent a couple days here and had a great time. It's so bright and airy. Karl himself was awesome; he met us when we got there, made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, and gave us some recommendations on good local spots. We'd definitely stay again!
Karl was the perfect guest. Friendly, interesting to talk to about culture, travel, architecture, and definitely seems an expert on cool things to do in Santa Barbara. I would love to host Karl again, and would imagine he's an excellent host.
