Book Buzz and Sandi's place *now!*, you won't be disappointed. It's an immaculately clean, new, modern, tastefully decorated and quiet loft refuge in a very convenient area near downtown. One block from groceries, coffee and easy access to the rest of everything Portland has to offer. The house has everything you would ever need: a fully equipped kitchen with access to spices, a sodastream (my fave!), bikes to tour the city, wifi and so much more. This place was everything as advertised and more. Enjoy!
Buzz (and his son in law Ron) constituted my first Airbnb experience. It could not have been better!
The condo itself was perfect. Spacious, urban, well designed - just a pleasure to live there for a few days. The place had all the needed amenities, and definitely had a luxurious feel.
Buzz always responded back to me quickly, and Ron (who actually let us into the place) gave us good tips as well.
The location is great, right next to public transportation, and a short walk downtown, or even across the bridge. Whenever I go back to Portland, it will be hard not to stay here again.
Pro tip: Use the complimentary bikes to roll around town.
Thanks Buzz and Ron!
You hear the word 'stunning' being bandied about fairly often, particularly on sites like these, so we're going to need a new word to describe Buzz' loft - Astounding, maybe. The pictures here on AirBnB can't really encapsulate just how beautiful this sunny loft really is. It's clear they have a keen sense of both style and comfort, from the spacious island evidently crafted from a piece of an old bowling alley to the cozy couch perched on a delightfully fluffy rug to the bed I slept like an absolute rock on night after night.
The location was perfect, with everything from the cute little shops in Northwest to the crunchy dives of Downtown within walking distance. Anywhere you need to go is a walk or a railride away.
Buzz was out of town when I came to stay, but Ron was always just a text message away if I ever needed anything (I didn't, but it's nice to know). Check-in and out was extremely flexible, even with my late arrival and ridiculously early departure. If you're looking for a fantastic home away from home for your visit, you'd be crazy not to check this place out.
The absolute best rent-from-owner vacation digs we've ever had! We were there during and after a major snowstorm, and actually arrived a day late due to I-5 being closed, which required an unplanned overnight hotel stay in Salem. Thank goodness we had snow chains, or we would have been 2 to 3 days late -- we were thrilled to finally get there, and Buzz's son in law was awesome about meeting us and showing us around!
Super Pearl district location with numerous restaurants and shops, wonderful secure building with an industrial loft vibe. Living space is bright and cheerful, even on snowy/rainy/cloudy days. The large corner windows have great views of the rooftop garden and the street below. Light rail runs in front of building, very little street noise, even with balcony doors open. Comfy queen size platform bed, two bathrooms (one w/ lg shower, other w/ tub plus separate lg shower). Super clean throughout, well-stocked kitchen (wide variety of spices available), lots of thoughtful small touches. Nice office space and Internet connection let me keep up with my online businesses while in town. No complaints, and would definitely stay again.
The personal stuff ... we chose Buzz & Sandi's condo for the fabulous open kitchen with lots of work space (awesome center island topped with a vintage slab of bowling alley flooring). We came prepared to test recipes, bake gluten-free breads, and hunker down for some serious cooking using local ingredients. We were pretty much stuck indoors due to icy roads the first 2 days, but took daily walks to the market (Safeway is literally a two minute stroll), made delicious meals, and enjoyed hanging out, reading, and napping. We're regular Portland visitors and drive up from So Cal -- we loved the easy freeway access and lighter-than-downtown traffic.
If you're a foodie with a car, we recommend the free factory tour at Bob's Red Mill, half an hour south, followed by a stop at their store. Bob's makes the best stone-ground organic flours and grain products, though they tend to be on the pricey side when purchased in grocery and health food stores. At their south Portland store, everything is available in bulk bins as well as pre-packaged, and the bulk prices are about half of what we pay at home. We stocked up on enough grains to keep us baking for a full year :-) We also shopped at IKEA while in town, as the nearest one to our home is a 2 hour/100 mile drive. We're already looking forward to our next Portland trip.
Great space, just a mile or so walk to the train station. Quiet building. Overall, very happy with my airbnb adventure.
Buzz was extremely helpful in telling me about the area and some connections for the second leg of my trip after I was done staying in Portland. He has by far been the most helpful host I ever had. Place was just as pictured and great location. The only downfall was the wifi was a little slow, but not a big deal.
This was a great place and Buzz one of the friendliest people I have met and the apartment and the advice cards strewn around doubled that accommodating feel. A great location close to everything and also a lovely place to relax.
Buzz was the great guest, very respecteful and easy to communicate.
I really appreciated to host him. I can only to recommendate him highly to the others hosts.
I hosted Ron (not Buzz) during his stay in Silver Spring. He was friendly, polite and was communicative about his arrival and departure time. I'd be happy to host Ron again.
