I run a computer consulting company from my home in the Mid-Hudson Valley, New York. I'm into the outdoors--running, climbing, biking, swimming and the like. Love to cook and garden as well.
I cannot say enough good things about Evan, his hospitality and his uniquely beautiful home. The house is a serene mountain oasis. The location is quiet and intimate, yet close to charming villages, unique eateries, shops and the incredible Mohonk Reserve. The house itself is a mix of modern convenience and Eastern tranquility. Evan was very open, helpful and respectful. I would recommend this place for anyone seeking a peaceful retreat. Ideal for outdoor adventurists as well as those seeking solitude.
Nothing but great things to say about this property. Beautiful space, meticulously kept and wonderful location. Evan was a very attentive host and made himself available if there was anything was needed during my stay. Highly recommended.
Like everyone else has noted, Evan's house is incredibly lovely. It remains cozy even when the temperature drops way below zero. For those of us who love to cook, his kitchen has everything one would need. Evan is also accommodating with any questions or help you may need getting settled.
I can't think of anything new to add that previous reviewers have not mentioned except that his bed mattresses are very, very firm. If you are a side sleeper, you may have problems getting comfortable (like I did). But this is just a personal preference and nothing against the accommodations.
We stayed at Evan's house for the Thanksgiving holiday. We were a group of 3 couples and the weekend was just what we needed. The pictures don't do the house and the remarkable views justice. The open design was just idea for a big cooking weekend. The three bedrooms were set up well and very clean - all with double beds and warm down quilts.(Note - no curtains on the windows so bring an eye mask if you're sensitive to light.) The heater in the center of the living room was a nice touch and the tatami mat was great to relax on. What impressed me most about Evan's house was the fact that it was so clear how much love and attention he put into it. From the design of the beautiful master bathroom (big Japanese influence) to the color of the wood used on the kitchen counter tops, it is clear that the clean house is full of thought and character. As a host, Evan was super responsive to all of my questions and went above and beyond for my group: he went out of his way to buy a turkey for us from the local High Falls co-op and even brined it overnight for us so that we could have a perfect Thanksgiving dinner. The kitchen is top notch with a commercial-grade stove and oven. It has nearly everything you need except for a microwave (which I suppose is probably all for the better). Also, Evan allowed us to pick some delicious fresh kale from his garden in the back. Overall, this house was great for our needs - a quick, 2 hr getaway from NYC for overworked young professionals looking for R&R in the middle of the Catskills!
Very relaxing and well appointed home, great views.
Evan was very helpful in suggesting local activities and also offered to get in some supplies if we required.
We will be back, it's such a lovely little town.
My family and another couple spent Labor Weekend at Evan's house. We had a wonderful time! The house is absolutely gorgeous and immaculately kept. Everything from the furniture to the incredibly well stocked chefs kitchen, the beautiful decks and garden, and the breathtaking view with the mountains in the background made this an incredibly relaxing weekend for us. Evan was a very gracious host and went above and beyond, even stocking the fridge with breakfast items for us since we were coming in late and generously offering us any of the vegetables and greens in his garden. He was easy to communicate with and provided us with a lot of suggestions to fill our weekend-- although frankly the house was so wonderful we spent most of it at home! We will absolutely be back. Thanks again, Evan!
We had an awesome time at Evan's house. Great setting, perfect location for great outdoor activities, and Evan is an amazing host who gives great information on the area and is super helpful if you have any questions during your stay. Would recommend to anyone.
Me and a few friends staying in Evan's house for a weekend getaway out of the city. The house is extremely well set up with a large kitchen, big garden and lots of outdoor space.
Evan was very helpful and provided lot of suggestions on what to do in the area – hiking trails, places to go swimming, nature sights etc.
I would recommend anyone to stay in Evan's great place.
Wonderful house and wonderful host! I recently visited High Falls with my Mother as a gift to her on her 70th birthday. We loved our stay. The house was spacious and very clean. The herb and lettuce garden is a very special touch. Evan allowed us to pick some leafy greens and we made a garden fresh salad. he even stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our stay and helped us build a dire in the wood burning stove. High Falls and nearby Kingston are wonderful places to visit and rich in history. I am planning on staying in Evan's home again if I return to the area. I would definitely recommend this house.
Evan's house is quite beautiful and comfortable, lovely area. We rented his house for a week. There were a few glitches - DVD player was hard to operate, beds in lower 2 BR weren't properly made up with enough blankets so my boys were quite cold the first night (then Even told us where to find additional quilts), refrigerator was dirty and there wasn't much room for our food, and Evan took two hours to leave the first day and came back mid-week for a couple of hours. But overall a nice stay. We broke a plate - Evan wanted $35 for it. I didn't think he should leave such expensive plates for guests to use and accidents happen. Then he informed us that we had used the wrong dishwashing detergent in the dishwasher. I picked up an unmarked bottle of liquid detergent under the sink and used it mistakenly. We offered to split the cost of fixing the dishwasher as we thought he should not have had unmarked detergents under the sink. He has refused that offer and left an unpleasant message on my profile page about our not paying bills and that my query about our refund deposit was because I knew about the dishwasher problem which is ridiculous. Our first airbnb experience and not in the end a very happy one. We paid him $2,700 for the week. Seems a princely sum to me.
