Hi, I'm a Professor of Spanish and Multicultural & Gender Studies at the California State University, Chico. in 2010 I founded a small nonprofit press, Cubanabooks, which publishes bilingual editions of literature by Cuban women. I believe in changing the world in the little ways I can. I don't drink alcohol, but I make up for it by being extra fun!
My wife Sandra Beck is an architect, who currently works as a Capital Projects consultant for several California universities. We own our own home here in Chico, where we live with two darling, well-behaved small dogs, a Chihuahua and a Schnauser (both mixes, from rescue).
My Jennifer D. sister teaches biology at the California State University in Stanislaus; her current research project is with California ground squirrels. Her Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix is perhaps the most well-trained dog you will meet (she always has had a hand with animals). Her house should be featured in better homes and gardens.
We love traveling, walking, dancing, the beach, nature, birds, dogs, bicycling, reading, movies, games, cooking, coffee... Recently Sandy and I spent two magical weeks in Italy, and since then have been on a slow food kick!
As guests we expect that the accommodations are as described, that everything works, and that any emergency fixes are taken care of right away. We appreciate having basic condiments and other staples in the kitchen, because we always love to cook. We like a well appointed and clean place that reflects the comfort and style in which we live in our own homes.
We are careful with our own property and treat the places we stay as if they were our own. We are communicative but not overly demanding. For the most part we prefer to get along on our own, but sometimes we will take advantage of the knowledge of the area that our host can provide.
