I did not meet Mike, but his wife Vanessa was just the sweetest! She gave us a full tour of this awesome island upon arriving complete with all the little tips and tricks for having the best stay.
Full kitchen, propane grill, plenty of drinking/cooking water stocked up. The little wood heating stove is surprisingly good at its job, and the views can not be beat!
This was the most amazing place I've ever spend time in. It felt like home to my whole family, and heaven to the dog! Not enough good can be said about it!
This is one of the best airbnb finds for me. The cottage is on an island, and it's all for you, what else is there to say? It was amazing. The hosts, Mike and Vanessa, are great and hospitable people. Thank you.
This was a fantastic cottage that truly made our week. As you've read, it is on an island - with a shallow bay on the back side (great for paddling), and a deeper bay on the front (better suited to swimming, etc.). There is low motorized boat traffic, which is perfect if you are looking for a quiet get away. The loons seem to really like to hang around this island as well.
The interior of the cottage is rustic and cozy, which makes it easy to enjoy yourself rain or shine. Outdoors, there are canoes and kayaks (and a beach) for those looking to be active, and indoors there are lots of games and books + nooks and crannies to keep you entertained.
Mike was a great host. He was always available, but never intruded. He was pleasant and friendly. We enjoyed ourselves very much :)
Lovely Island - We had a great time. Can be a little difficult to find so make sure to read the attached road guide from Mike.
For those who want an outback experience
Wonderful place for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, reading, and most of all relaxation and seclusion. We had a great two weeks of doing all of the above!! Beautiful setting!!
Mike was an excellent host and an absolute gentleman! He was very responsive via phone before and during our stay and provided very clear directions to his very wonderful and amazing out of the way slice of paradise! My mom, sister, and I (plus our dogs) traveled to the island as part of a surprise-mystery trip to celebrate my sister's 40th birthday. Mike's very private and romantic, whimsical, artistically appointed cottage made our hearts and spirits absolutely soar!!! The cottage was well appointed with just the right amount of 'creature comforts' and just the right amount of rustic-ness, so that you felt spoiled, but were not distracted from relaxing and enjoying the truly stunning scenery. Other highlights included....catch & release fishing from the docks, swimming throughout the day, canoe trips, lounging in the hammock, and making delicious food in the very spacious kitchen. We feel so fortunate that Mike was so generous to let us stay there for a few days and we slept like queens, ate like kings, and enjoyed every waking (and sleeping) moment on that precious paradise. The entire atmosphere was so welcoming, serene, and inviting. Mike met us on the dock to help us with our stuff, rowed us across the bay, and gave us a brief orientation, then left us to our own devices for the next few days.....and it was our kingdom to enjoy...what a wonderful gift! Thank you...we are already planning our next trip :)
The stay at the Island was breathe taking! We had wonderful relaxing time. There are neighbors nearby but it still feels like cozy/ charming private paradise. Cabin itself is very beautiful! The views are spectacular from everywhere in the cabin and on the island. My favorite was loft bedroom upstairs... It has to be the best bedroom I have ever slept... the view of water and hearing wind chime was incredible. The kitchen was perfect... with the great views I can cook and do dishes all day. The cabin is perfect size for any amount of people. Bonus: another tree house on the island that can sleep two. Cabin was well equipped, kitchen has all the necessary amenities (full size fridge, oven, stove, utensils... No dishwasher.) You do need to bring your own drinking water. The furniture is comfortable! I was surprised that there were several places to relax on the property. Mike is okay host... things got little stressed out at beginning & end. We were unable to get hold of Mike since we wanted to checkout night before due to work... We learned how to canoe on our own! (First time canoeing. =} ) Another issue is that toilet is disgusting and I hated being close to the kitchen. There can be a lot bugs even in the cabin... Don't forget bug spray! Overall the Island and cabin was a wonderful peace of heaven!!! The vacation of three days was up to our expectations. I do recommend this place!
Mike was a lovely host, and although he unfortunately had his rowboat snagged from him before our arrival of 6 (+ a dog), he graciously helped us to make several canoe trips with our belongings. The cottage was very cozy, and if you're looking for a cross between a camp/cottage, this would be perfect for you!
We loved having the whole island to ourselves, and it was totally stress-free for the dog owners in our group. Thanks again for sharing your wonderful space with us and wishing you the best with your new home and summer projects!
A beautiful space with just the right amount of amenities (electricity and working kitchen but no TV/internet) to make for a relaxing cottage vacation. The island is a good size and Mike was a pleasure to deal with. The 360 windows take advantage of being on an island, with views of the water from almost everywhere inside. A lot of weeds/plants in the water meant the swimming isn't great, otherwise everything really is. Remote, but with neighbors close by on the lake, it is really a terrific spot for a couple, or a larger group of people. I hope to return.
J'ai accueilli sa femme Victoria, tres bon hote! Je vous la/le recommande.
Mike's wife stayed at our apartment with two friends for a few nights before goind to Normandie for a retreat. I only met her two friends who were charming. I gathered they were all engaged in style, fashion, beauty and colour harmony. So very peaceful activities... My only regret is that I had no time getting advice from them !
Mike Fletcher is a fine upstanding gentleman. He is polite and tidy. There were no issues. I would have him back in a flash. Stephen Silver
Lovely to meet Fletch and his wife, luckily I was in when they arrived as they do not like mobiles. Unfortunately they only stayed only one night as they had to return to sort out a dogsitting problem. They were considerate and easy guests, best wishes to them both.
It was great having Fletch and Vanessa to stay. They are a warm, friendly and fun couple to have around. We didn't spend loads of time together as they were off out and about exploring, but when they were here in the mornings and evenings it was a pleasure to chat to them. Always welcome back anytime!
He did not arrive at Stilegate B&B
