I spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Ian's abode. As a "mature" female, I initially wasn't sure if I would be comfortable in a hostel setting. As soon as I arrived, I met 2 young departing guests and had nice conversation with Ian and them, sitting in the shaded patio by the pool. That set the tone for an inclusive experience, meeting other guests as they came and went, and generally hanging out the whole week! I was much in need of simple R&R and Ian's place definitely fit the bill!
Ian is a kind and generous host. Laid back, he evokes a Hawaiian vibe. As much as the situation allowed, I was made to feel like "family" and we had some fine exchanges out by the pool. His breakfasts were delicious and fulfilling on many levels, prepared with care and flair. He took care of his guests' needs as well as the needs of his community. A fire had started down the block one night and the fire dept. couldn't get there. Ian saw to it that hoses were assembled and he patiently stood there, slowly extinguishing what could have become a large fire, with a garden hose! That shows his maturity and common sense better than mere words.
I look forward to staying at Villa Lilimar when I'm in the Coronado area again!
Ian was warm, gracious, friendly, helpful and really made us feel welcome. We were an unusual group for Lillimar. 2 grandparents - 70's, our children 39 and our 10 1/2 year old grandson. The rooms are very small with good closet space and a table to put things on. They are dark and really make one appreciate being outside, but the air conditioner makes the room very comfortable. It is a great room for sleeping Pool is small, but fine and the ping pong table especially fun. Good place to read. An easy walk or drive to the beach and wonderful breakfast made it a fine place for us.
Villa Lilimar is a very comfortable and attractive place to stay. Our group of 7 enjoyed the pool, hammocks and ping pong.
The breakfasts Ian prepared were a great way to start the day.
The location also permitted us to walk to two very different beach areas.
We enjoyed visiting with Ian (whose English is excellent). We appreciated his willingness to provide information on the area. We also appreciated being able to use his very nice grill to cook our dinner and his kitchen to prepare ceviche using fish we bought directly from a local fisherman. We had a great, albeit too short, stay.
Ian was a fantastic host and truly went out of his way to make the stay for myself and my boyfriend a pleasant one. I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was - the rooms and especially the pool was fantastic, and Ian's training as a chef definitely shows in the fantastic breakfasts that he serves every morning.
If we ever find ourselves in Coronado, we'll definitely stay again!
Great hostel. Great host. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, friendly and convenient place to relax for a few days, near the beach, this is it!
I have seen many hostels from extensive travel experience, and Ian's place gets the overall high score.
I just wish someone would beat Ian in pingpong.
Hehehe well you beat me in the board games so let's call it even ;)
Ian is a cool guy with lots of stories :) The pool has a perfect temperature and the house is near some nice little beaches. Had a great time thanks !
Wow, this is an experience, the pictures do not do justice to this place and the host is out of this world, a guy that takes Airbnb to a new level. This house is inside a gated community, don't trust your GPS in getting you there, ask Ian and he will give you easy instructions to get there, even wait out on st or come meet you on hwy, thats truly how cool of a guy he is. The place is nothing short of a vacationers dream!
Ian made us feel like family! He made us delicious breakfasts, made us feel welcome to use the kitchen, and has a keen sense of humor. His command of English is impressive and deeply appreciated when my husband ended up in a doctor's office.
Ian is a very friendly host. He gave us a free lift from and to the bus station and made a tasty breakfast as well.
A Fun Experience! Ian was great and was more than accommodating to me and my 10 friends. He was knowlegable about the area and made us feel at home. The house was a great place to host our bachelor party. Would definitely recommend!!
