I'm a 30 year old guy married with a funny Finnish girl. We are both Engineers and are very reliable but also laid back. We love outdoors and relaxing with drink, two or three.
We stayed at Ingo and Anu's place for 10 days during the end of the summer of 2013. The room was really cozy and the bathroom was perfect. A washing machine, a spacious shower and more importantly...the sauna (really great). Having a seperate entrance really made us feel at home. A place to park the car and only 15 minutes to walk to the city center. Anu and Ingu have been marvelous hosts, eager to answer our questions. This is why we have to recommend Anu and Ingo's place if you plan to stay in Reykjavik.
Great room and the perfect place to stay in Reykjavik. The room was about 12'x14' with a separate bathroom (about 6 feet away from the room). The ceilings in the room and bathroom are only about 6'5, but the space in the room feels large and has lots of natural sunlight (well in the summer). The hosts were great and I actually never saw them due to the separate entrance. Their daughter lives also lives in the basement, but besides a couple early morning wake up calls from some guy I never heard any other noise in the room.
The room is very clean, fixtures are new and modern (expect for the fridge), and the bathroom is top of the line. The best part of the room was the hot pot, kitchen table, fridge, and microwave. It made early morning breakfast easy and felt like home. The love seat/couch is nice.
Pros: Room is central location to everything (5 minutes to start of main shopping street, 20 minutes walk to Kringlan mall, 5 minutes walk to bakery, good restaurants within 5 minutes walk, the Pearl is 20 minutes walk), clean and modern room, outdoor patio and yard to enjoy, sauna (yes you heard me right), reliable wifi, street parking, private entrance, own bathroom, lots of free travel guides and papers, drawer full of some dry food/cups/plates/wine opener/forks/etc., and gracious hosts.
Cons: The main part of downtown is about a 25 minute walk (makes walking to the bars every night challenging), fridge in room can be loud at times, comforter on the bed would be small for two people, tv does not have cable (but does have a DVD player and there are two video rental stores close by or you can watch movies on Itunes as I did), towel in bathroom is small.
Tip: I left the 2013 english version of the Iceland travel guide in the room. There is a really good bakery on your way to the walk to the Pearl. (website hidden) maps will give you inaccurate information about locations. There is free wifi in the lobby at the Best Western (password is attached to the lobby guest computer) and they also have the new Grapevine paper and other travel brochures. Closest big grocery stores are in the shopping mall (Kringlan) and on the far side of the shopping street. There is a connivence store not far on the main shopping street.
Looking forward to staying here the next time I'm in Reykjavik!
We stayed at Ingo and Anu's place for 10 days during the sommer of 2013. The room is just as described, with everything you need on your vacation. We expecially enoyed the seperate entrance, our own bathroom with washing machine, the proximity to city center (5 minute walk) and the hospitality if Ingo and Anu.
We can only give Ingo and Anu our warmest recomendations if you are staying in Reykjavik.
Excellent experience. You'll have a lot of privacy, basically your own little apartment with all the amenities you need. It's clean, has a good shower and is only a short walk to the downtown area. It's very nice to have a fridge and a microwave so you don't have to eat out for all your meals.
Thanks Anu and Ingo, for the very nice stay!!! We had relaxed 3 days in Reykjavik! Accommadation is about 15-20 min walking from downtown. And there is a bus stop right next door, too. The room was nice, spacious and quiet. Perfect was the fridge and that you had our own bath next door. Very nice place, with friendly people:-)
The reservation was canceled 20 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Ingolfur is warm and super easy-going and Anu very cheerful. The apartment is spacious, clean, private and quiet. The location is perfect, so close to down town and the very nice and old indoor swimming pool where you will be taking your shower. When Ingo finishes his basement renovation and install the shower, it will be much more convenient. I wished I spent more time talking to my hosts about Iceland.
Ingólfur and Anu were amazong hosts. From the first day, they make us at ease. There were some Icelandic yogurts in the fridge. The room is well furnished and really clean. We feeled at home since the first night. We warmly recommend the room of Ingólfur and Anu for any step in Iceland.
My friend and I stayed for three nights and we had an amazing time! The flat was very comfortable and spacious. We arrived at 2am in the morning and Ingo was very kind to recieve us so late! Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to spend some time together but we had a fantastic in Iceland and will for sure come back to stay longer!
I feel so lucky that I used AirBnB for my trip to Iceland! The apartment was great-- clean, cheery, close to the central area-- and Ingo and Anu were wonderful hosts. They were welcoming but also gave me plenty of privacy, so it really did feel like I had my own little apartment in Reykjavik :)
Ingo and guests were great to host. We hardly knew they were there. Always welcome back!
Ingo, his gorgeous wife Anu and their lovely group of friends stayed at our place in July 2013 and were the perfect guests! They were all warm, funny, courteous, engaging people and it was an absolute pleasure to meet them. They treated my home with the greatest care and respect and on my return, I was delighted to find the house spotlessly clean and in perfect order - it was almost as if I'd never been away! My new favourite guests of all time!! So if you're an Airbnb host and Ingo sends you a booking request, I suggest you accept immediately - you won't find better guests anywhere. Thanks for everything Ingo and Anu, you guys are all welcome back anytime - perhaps next time, we'll get to raise a few glasses in The Hole in the Wall together ;-)
