I have stayed with Joel for about three days while i was visiting washington and it was great. His house is very nice and cozy and so is the room. Joel provided me with evwrything i needed and also gave me great tips about the city. The dogs are very friendly too. Moving around was easy since the metro station is a few blocks away and the neighborhood seemed pretty quiet and safe. I would deffinetly recomend his place and if i e ver come back to Washington i will definetly stay there again. Thanks Joel for everything and go capitols...
Joel was a great host and the place was perfect for our stay. The apartment is quirky, fun and cozy (but a little cold even with space heaters).
I had such a great experience at Joel's. The room was exactlly as I hoped--it had everything I needed to rest and be productive. Joel was beyond hospitable, anticipating everything to make my visit positive and stress-free. His townhouse is very cool, and I loved his dogs. It was a great place in a great location, allowing me to experience Columbia Heights and the U Street and 14th Street Corridors. This was my first Airbnb experience, and Joel set a very high bar!
I reached out to Joel at the very last minute while traveling and he was able to respond quickly to provide me a direction for the night. Joel has a wealth of knowledge and is a local to DC. His place was very close to the restaurants and bars. He provides free parking which is a huge plus. I would definitely stay here again if I were back in DC.
Great place with a great host. Joel was extremely kind and accommodating and didn't hesitate to invite us up to his place to check out his amazing collection and hang out with his two very sweet dogs. His place was clean and comfortable (the board games, pinball machine and computer were definitely a plus), and he was responsive and helpful when recommending restaurants and bars to visit around the neighborhood. Joel even left us a bottle of wine, which I thought was very sweet. Overall a perfect experience.
The apartment was just as pictured- plenty of space for 3 of us. Perfect location for our visit to see our daughter nearby. Joel was a great host & responded quickly any request. Being able to bring our dog was an added perk.
Joel was friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable. The house is in a great location, too. Just a short walk to great restaurants, bars, and the Metro. This was a great value!
Highly recommend staying with Joel! I didn't have the chance to stay long, but he was very hospitable and the space was comfortable and clean. It is evident he is an airbnb pro from our communication, the room setup, and all the thoughtful little details (he has a supply of pretty much any toiletry you may have forgotten). There is also an excellent collection of old and unique finds, so be sure to explore the house and check them out! Just be aware that there are two dogs who get very excited about new people. I was a little nervous at first, but they are extremely friendly, and Joel helped me learn to communicate with them.
Joel and his girlfriend Shannon were really kind and helpful. (the dogs as well) The room and the neighbourhood was nice. There was even a fridge with drinks and snacks in the room. It is close to the metro station, therefore it easy and quick to get to downtown area. Everything was great. I would certainly stay there again.
Joel was an ideal client, he was polite, neat and gave me some wonderful tips so I can keep improving. He texted upon traveling so I knew exactly when he would arrive.. I enjoyed the cookies he brought, and his casual manner. He is welcome to return any time.
Super! Would be welcome in my place again.
I haven't stayed at Joel's property, but a friend & fellow photograher. A stand-up guy in every way & definitely a good source for learning about the cooler aspects of DC.
I've known Joel for a few years and have crashed at his place a lot during that time. Whether it was a planned visit or last minute, he's always been more than hospitable in welcoming me into his home. Whether for brunch (Joel is an excellent cook - ask for pizza), band practice, or building bikes out back (he built my bike), friends and friends of friends, dogs and friends of dogs are welcome. Ollie and Sonar are docile and well-behaved, and happy to spoon if you get lonely - Ollie is a big spoon, Sonar is a little one. If you're laid back and enjoy meeting new people, you'll be very happy staying here.
Additionally, Columbia Heights is a fun neighborhood and Joel's house is within walking/biking distance to great bars, restaurants and music venues (including the 9:30 Club and Black Cat). If you're interested in nightlife with locals, you'll have to check out U Street.
I've known Joel for about 4 years. In fact we used to be neighbors. I can honestly say he's the best neighbor you'd ever want to have. From impromptu dinner parties, to fixing a flat tire, Joel was always amazingly accommodating and helpful.
His house is great, so much character, and the backyard is amazing in the summer (he also has this cool roof deck over his garage). He makes the best salsa. I remember spending a whole summer in Joel's living room eating chips and salsa, drinking Bourbon branches and watching Battlestar Galactica.
The location of the house is perfect, walking distance to U St, and Columbia Heights, both of which have metro stops. It's literally about 4 blocks from an amazing wine bar, a pizzeria, and a bunch of other fun stuff on 11th St.
In conclusion Joel is an amazing host and I can't think of a better place to stay in DC. I'm sure he'd also have great recommendations of cool non touristy things to do in the city.
I've know Joel for quite some time now (as well as his sister and mother)....the actual number of years escapes me (or I've consciencely blocked it because it reminds me how old we are)....but all the time I've know him he's always been Joel, basically a DC staple who's cool, interesting, fun to hang around, accommodating, etc. I'd go on but there's only so much one should feed another's ego! :)
Joel, his house, and his dogs are among my favorite things in DC. The house is chock full of interesting stuff and Joel knows pretty much everything there is to know about everything. He's a killer cook, too, so you're in luck if he happens to be in the kitchen concocting miracles while you're around. Terrific host! Highly recommended :)
Joel is a DC lifer who is a fun, chill person with a cool house and enviable hobbies. A natural host, his home has been a social hub for far longer than I've known him. His place is in a hip neighborhood, central to many of the cities best nightlife options.
Joel is one of the coolest people in DC. He is a part of the social fabric of the city and is connected to nearly everyone worth being connected to, and everyone likes him! His house is fun and social and centrally located in the hippest part of real DC. If you like live music, bikes, dogs and having fun, stay here! He is a wonderful host and will help make your visit to town a memorable one.
