I'm a Toronto homeowner and was in the midst of a renovation so stayed at Safiya's over an extended period of time. Her loft is exactly as she describes and I had an amazing time in her home and neighbourhood. The loft is truly one of a kind, rustic, magical and extremely comfortable. I was sad to leave.
The space was fantastic. Safiya was very helpful and responsive. Very smooth and easy. Highly recommend.
Unique, fantastic loft in a cool part of town; Safiya was a great host. Would definitely stay again next time I'm in town.
This place is fantastic. Super clean, large, airy, and very comfortable. The location was perfect for me. A block from the metro, surrounded by many of Toronto's best restaurants, yet away from the touristy areas found in the downtown hotel district. Safiya was the perfect host - always communicative and easy to work with. If you're looking for something different during your next Toronto stay this is the place. Thanks again Safiya.
Safiya is truly a nice and caring host. We very much enjoyed the cozy, warm atmosphere of her spacious apartment, which by the way comes with all comforts. The neighbourhood was also great for us, with many upcoming galleries, bars and cafés, but rough around the edges and with real people to encounter. Oh, subway and busses at your doorstep will take you to all other interesting spots in the city/center within 5-20 minutes. Highly recommended, would love to get back next time.
i live in toronto - but have been moving around a bit - so this was a great temporary home. definitely one of the few remaining old-school, live-in buildings left in the city -- and that was my main draw.
i liked safiya's aesthetic a lot. the open space was great for some good creative work and overall, it was very inviting. the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom big and bright. and you can't go wrong with a clawfoot tub!
the location may not for everyone, especially people coming to toronto on vacation since it's not "central" per se - but that's also its charm. and it's close enough to some funky neighborhoods - a tucked away industrial pocket that was very quiet, yet the proximity to multi-cultural street life and to the subway was great - being so close to the subway meant i could get anywhere and very quickly. so close, so accessible. and definitely in a non-condo-ified part of the city - what a concept, a breath of fresh, non-gentrified air!
staying in an old industrial building, banging pipes and fluctuating heat in winter are part of the package. noise also traveled from other units thru' the thin walls, but given i was there over the holidays, i'm sure it's not always that rowdy. the people i did pass in the halls were friendly, and it was great to have access to a parking spot when needed.
initially, it was a bit of a communication challenge renting the space as safiya was in south america and often offline, but once we had a schedule of when to be in touch, everything went smoothly. also, she was amazing in accommodating me and a last-minute trip during my rental period, and offered to let me stay there sometime in the future to make up for the time lost. i know she made an exception for me - which i so appreciate - and i'm really looking forward to returning to her beautiful loft space.
overall, the space itself was the inspiration. open, high ceilings, basic kitchen, big bathroom, decorated w/ personal style, great books - replete with a giant blackboard and chalk for brainstorming. i'd easily stay there for months on end, it was *that* great albeit- a bit rough 'round the edges. but for creative types who love and yearn for the real-deal, near-extinct species known as "authentic artist loft" - safiya's place is it!
Safiya has designed a magic loft in a former industrial building. It is a spacious and super well put together working artists loft. We loved the amount of space, fun atmosphere, great dining table and relaxing couch. It is just a short walk to the subway and also has a parking spot in a nice little lot right outside the door, which was great.
There is an organic farmers market on thursday afternoons at the dufferin grove, which is only a short hop away.
It's a great space in a neighborhood that is just finding new form.
And is a great base to have fun and enjoy toronto from.
Safiya's home is a spacious and beautiful loft. Bright and quiet with lots of windows, high ceilings, interesting objects, comfy furniture and bed. Suited us perfectly as it was a 10 minute walk to our daughter's. Close to a subway stop and other public transportation. A good variety of restaurants and shops a close by. The Hungry Artist's back patio was a favourite breakfast place of ours. I would highly recommend this for adventuresome travelers who want a Toronto experience in an area out of the mainstream. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here.
Safiya was an easy, respectful guest who was great with communication. They were very honest and upfront about everything. Thanks!
Safiya was a great guest and I recommend her to any Airbnb host. She took great care of the apartment, she was extremely respectful and friendly. She left the place in a perfect condition.
This was our second time hosting Safiya and we hope to see her again in the near future. We for sure will be keeping in touch and highly recommend her as a guest!
