Jonatthan met us at the apartment and gave us a tour and explained where to find everything. He was gracious and allowed us to use anything in the apartment including any food, coffee or other supplies he had.
The apartment is beautifully decorated and located within walking distance of the train station and all important attractions. Restaurants, shopping and sightseeing are right out your door and you can easily explore a new area of Montpellier each day.
Transportation (trams or buses) are right at the end of the street and we ended up using the tram system to see different parts of the city including going to the sea.
Jonatthan is a kind and generous person,he speaks good English and tried to be as helpful as possible to us.He offered to meet us at the train station and accompany us to the apartment, but as it was only a five minute walk away,we said we would find our own way there. He carried my bag up the twenty or so steps to the apartment from the entrance hall.He had left us supplies of food and drink in the big fridge, including fruit, butter and jam, milk, water and a bottle of wine, which made us feel very welcome. Also there was a loaf of bread and some little pastries from the baker's below left out on the table for us,they were delicious.Jonatthan texted after our first night at the apartment to see if we were OK and to ensure that we had everything we needed.
The apartment is spacious, beautifully clean and newly decorated, with high ceilings and painted mouldings and has a lovely mix of character and contemporary (email hidden) is conveniently placed near the centre of town,we walked everywhere, although it is near to a tram stop, should you wish to catch one.The street below is pedestrianised, although motorcycles buzz up and down it,so take care to watch for these.Obviously delivery vans and street cleaners are also permitted to use it.Some street noise is inevitable in such a central location. We were bothered by loud music a couple of nights, which came from an apartment opposite, which had its balcony doors wide open. We may have just been unfortunate that week, maybe the students had just returned to town and were celebrating, the nights were warm enough to warrant doors and windows being left open.
When you first get to Montpellier, visit the tourist office, which is near the main square,to get a free map, which also indexes the main sights and has other useful information. You can also pick up leaflets there for places such as the local zoo and vineyards.Several beaches are accessible by tram and then a short bus ride.
