Je suis curé de la Paroisse de Pont-Saint-Esprit.
Vous êtes les bienvenus à Pont-Saint-Esprit, porte d'or de la Provence.
We had a great time at the Presbytery. Great value for money and quite spacious. It is basic and we found a couple of minor issues - oven door wouldn't open etc, but it met our family of five needs well. It is in the best part of the town - close to the market, the church and citadel. From the bedroom you have A nice view of Rhone and also of the Church at night. The apartment is on the second floor - the second bedroom is actually across the landing from the rest of the apartment and their is no lock for this door. The complex is secure but it does mean that the people hiring first floor could access the second bedroom of your apartment. We recommend keeping all the valuables in the main area - which contains lounge, kitchen, bathroom and main bedroom. We used this as a base to explore the Ardeche River and Gorge, Pont du Gard, Avignon. A good cheap place to base from. We did not meet Fr Bertrand, but Francette (lady who works for the parish) met us. Fortunately my wife spoke some French so we managed communication - Francette was helpful.
Great place to stay to explore the Provence region! Everything close by with swimming in the river for the hot weather and the town had all the essential plus a good market on Saturday morning. Bertrand was very helpful and provided info on the area.
We had a very pleasant experience staying at Father Bertrand's presbytery. He was very helpful with recommendations of things to do and to see in the area and the apartment is very close to Ardèche, where there's a whole bunch of fantastic things to do! The was very clean, well equipped and quiet. It is also well located and you can easily visit the city on foot.
The apartment itself was reasonably clean and check in was no problem, Fr. Bernard was attending a wedding when we arrived, but we were certainly looked after and shown the apartment. We were more disappointed with the town itself there is absolutely nothing to do there, and if you dont have a car you are on your own. We took a bus several times out of the area basically to find something of interest, the restaurants are almost Nil to choose from, very limited, overall we were very disappointed with THE (website hidden) Bernards english is very limited, but he was very nice as was his housekeeper, but unless you have a car to visit outside the area I would give Pont sain Espirit a miss. My gosh! This place is huge. The apartment is clean and tidy, and covers all the basic amenities. The wifi connection is excellent too. Bertrand has been very friendly and introduces us to some scenic route. There is a Saturday market (hopefully I remember the date correctly) which is only minutes away from our stay. The produce and food there are excellent.
We arrived at the presbytery, there is a large free car park opposite, which seems quite safe, I didn't see any damage being done, or by asking, you can park 1 car on the grounds.
We were met by Père Bertand, who is a really nice friendly man. He speaks a little English and we speak no French - but he could explain enough for us to understand - so that was good for us. Bertrand did not impose upon us during the stay. We had to stay in one day as it was raining and cold, unfortunately the heating was not on.
There are supermarche or supermarkets, one is within walking distance, but use a back pack if a bit heavy. Great (the best) Sunday street market, similar to Portobello road, London.
We stayed what is called on the "first floor" in Australia. It is quite palacial regarding the size of some of the rooms, essentials are there, however it is quite basic. We like to do our own cooking and the kitchen was really great. The river Rhone (about 45 second walk away) was really running fast, great to see and the bridge over it is not straight like normal bridges. Church opposite is more like a Cathederal - a must see. As with many towns and their history close by.
Overall a great stay.

Our stay in the Catholic Presbytery in Pont Saint Esprit was a very comfortable and worthwhile experience. This is not 5 star accommodation, but you would not expect that. It is comfortable, clean, warm and secure and served our purposes well for exploring the Languedoc and Provence areas of southern France. Father Bertrand's English is about as good as our French, but we easily were able to understand each other. He was very helpful and concerned for all our needs. We enjoyed our stay.
Perfect for the 10 of us, the accommodation is spacious and Father Daude was a wonderful host. The little village is very beautiful and very close to Orange and Avignon for great day trips.
Merci Father Daude et bonne annee 2013!
We loved staying at the Presbytery! What a beautiful, historical location. Bertrand was a kind and gracious host. Even showing us the bell tower one day when he was free! The apartment is spacious and a close walk to the supermarket. Market day on Saturday in the street around the corner was wonderful! Highly recommended. Thank you Bertrand!
Father Bertrand was very helpful and pleasant. The apartment was spacious and well located for day trips in the Gard & Provence.
Father Bertrand was a verry quiet guest.Left a place verry clean and neat.We didn`t spend much time talking, but i was verry pleased to have him as a guest.I would reccomend him to anyone.
