Staying at Judith's farmhouse was interesting. It somewhat reminded me of my youth, my early years raised on a farm. As it turned out Judith would not be there since she was working in Bilbao. She emailed us excellent instructions which made our scavenger hunt easy. We did get a glimpse of Judith prior to our departure.
I spent 4 wonderful nights in Judith's "House in rural Basque country ". The house is absolutely beautiful and genuine, the countryside is as you would imagine the Basque country, green and lush full of local produce. The Location is perfectly situated, easy to get to Bilbao, San Sebastion and Vitoria. Breakfast is plentiful, full of homemade jams, yogurt, compote and local cheeses. But best of all, Judith is so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the Basque that she is truly passionate about.
We absolutely loved our stay here. Judith was a great host making us feel very welcome and sharing lots of information and stories. It was a great base to explore from, we went to Bilbao one day, Pamplona the next, also Gorbeia Natural Park, Vitoria and Orduna. Beautiful countryside. Loved the house, loved the garden, loved Judith.
I stayed with Judith for four nights, relaxing after driving around Spain. I could not have chosen a more quiet and pleasant location. While Judith lets you have your own "space" she is always available to assist and answer questions. She is very much at home in the country, making her own bread, yoghurt, jams etc. as you will quickly discover at breakfast! I used the house as a base for the Basque region and using the minor roads discovered the beautiful local mountain scenery, villages and towns. I also visited Bilbao as well as Aspetia, the beautiful coast line and San Sebastian while I stayed with Judith. Thanks for looking after me, I do not think I have slept so well in a long time!
A “House in Rural Basque Country”.
This description enticed us to head North during our visit to Spain and we are so pleased that we did.
The house itself was fascinating. Having come from New Zealand we were not used to “Old” and this home was old, comfortable and so interesting.
We as a family have a farming background and felt at home in a setting that was rural yet so very different. At home we don’t have a sheep farm some fifty metres up the road where they produce
cheese. Neither do we have adjacent woods that we can wander through and get lost. ( Judith cannot believe that we did!)
The location was convenient in that we were able to easily travel to Bilbao where we visited the “Guggenheim” and to Guernica on another day.
As we reflect on our stay we recall and are so grateful for the wonderful hospitality offered by Judith. We recall the discussions around a glass of wine; Judith’s willingness to go that extra mile to ensure our stay was so enjoyable. We are so fortunate to have come to Basque Country.
We had a wonderful and relaxing time staying with Judith in her beautiful home in the Basque country. She made delicious breakfasts each morning that we enjoyed outside next to her garden. We highly recommend both the accommodations and the hostess.
Judith was an exceptional and kind host. Her home could not have been a nicer way to experience the La Rioja region of Spain. Her hospitality was overwhelming. I could not be more grateful for her taking us into her home. Thank you Judith!
What a lovely experience. Judith is a great host, and has a gorgeous medieval house with a huge and beautiful garden. We spent four days there, rather than the planned three, as it was so nice we didn't want to leave. The house is in a pleasantly secluded area, half an hour from Bilbao. A credit to AirBnb, Thanks!
Judith was a great, warm and super lovely guest to host. We had many cultural connections and great talks together. I can deffinately recommend judith, and really hope to see her again soon.
Judith was a great guest. Communication was easy and pleasant. The apartment was left in great condition. We would recommend Judith to other hosts.
Judith was a joy! We had so much in common and I loved her energy. She was the perfect guest and she is welcome back anyitme.
I also hope to visit her in Spain - very soon.
I cannot recommend Judiths home enough, a friend of a friend we arrived to stay for one night and it took about five minutes to decide we'd rather stay several days there and might have a hard time leaving. My boyfriend and I were traveling to several cities over about a month, and found Judiths home a peaceful retreat to catch our breath, eat breakfast in the garden, and soak up the fresh air. Breakfast of homemade yogurt, fresh milk, homemade jams, fruits from the yard, a traditional rural house with local charm, it was wonderful. A perfect mid-point to our trip, and with great company! Thanks Judith!
Judith is a beloved and old friend of mine, despite the many years we have spent in different continents. I am so happy that she is now residing in Spain! Her home in Urkabustaiz is a dream place: quiet, peaceful, green, open, fresh, a big traditional Basque house where you can enjoy the best of country life and easy access to main Basque cities as well. On top of that, you will be presented with an amazing breakfast every morning with marmelade, yogourt, and bread, all home made, and fresh milk and fruit, flavours that many of us cannot enjoy daily. Judith is very kind and helpful, the invisible host or a lovely company in the evening. You choose.
