I am a passionate, caring, "do-gooder" policy analyst currently living in Beijing, China. I have worked for the United Nations helping vulnerable populations in some of the world’s toughest war zones in Africa but in recent years have been fortunate to live in calmer places (Europe, US, Asia). Born in Switzerland and raised in the U.S., I have lived half of my life as an expatriate., driven by a desire to make the world a better place. I currently head up the China office of a think tank working in international security issues and conflict resolution.
I believe in working hard and playing hard, and am known for my sense of humor and robust laugh.
I believe that the more pressing the problems we face and the more daunting the world's challenges, the more important it is to keep sight of the satisfactions of life. I love so many things: exploring new countries and cultures, collecting art, urban design, architecture, punditry, theater and film, live music, playing piano and violin, haphazardly discovering new music, writing, amateur photography, underwater photography, and many outdoor and indoor sports.... When in Beijing, I can often be found exploring the city's corners, haggling in the local markets, strolling in the parks, wandering around the hutongs, bicycling and hiking around the Great Wall, discovering new restaurants, and indulging in the city's vibrant art, music and underground rock scenes.
As a guest, I generally have very full schedules during the day and evenings, so will not be much of an imposition.
