This apartment provided the perfect little home within walking distance of everything wonderful in the Marais. Alex greeted us upon arrival and was very friendly and welcoming. He helped with the luggage up to the top floor. The stairs may not suit everyone but in my opinion was well worth the extra exercise, especially after long delicious meals with garlicky and buttered escargot, steak tartare, the best bread in the world, divine cheeses and plenty of Bordeaux. After all, stairs and walking is as much a part of Paris as anything!
The apartment has a nice cross breeze from the living room to the bedroom and the soundtrack of the street down below is heard just enough to provide a wonderful atmosphere. The apartment as a whole reminded me of a boat, with the wood details and white walls and plenty of light. The shower had excellent water pressure and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen is small, yes, but has everything you would need to cook a meal, wash a load of laundry or make an espresso or a pot of coffee in the morning.
The location is between three Metro stations which take you everywhere in the city and fast! If walking is your choice, you will walk out the door and be very close to the Marche des Enfants Rouge to buy anything you would need to cook a fabulous french meal or to sit for "Sunday brunch" with all of your Parisian neighbors. (Just don't tell anyone else, it was already very crowded with visitors!) The Rue des Rosiers is close by in the direction of the river with tons of shopping and quaint cafes and falafel joints to pass away the day in. The Boulevard de Beaumarchais is a very close walk and has one of the most "of the moment" concept stores, Merci, where you can shop till you need a break and then retire to their charming little cafe filled with a floor to ceiling library of French and German books. Last but not least, the closest and chicest little hotel Jules et Jim is right down the street from the apartment serving marvelous cocktails and a variety of wines. (Again, go but don't tell your friends! ; ) It still has a quiet getaway atmosphere and feels like a step into a beachside town, especially when warm enough to sit outside)
There's always more but for now that's my story and I'm sticking to it. This little apartment is a gem. Maybe not the fanciest place in the world, but if that's what you are looking for there are hundreds of "fancy" hotels in Paris. If you are looking for a true Parisian Marais apartment to call home and to make you feel like a native, this one's for you.
Bon voyage and say hello to beautiful Paris for me!
