We had a great stay at Matthew & Laura’s! Two Francophile’s in the heart of Long Island City, Laura was out of town so it was just me and my aunt staying with her husband Matthew. He welcomed us with some real New York bagels and taught me how to use their espresso machine upon arrival. Exciting! The apartment is full of natural light in the bathroom and wonderful houseplants in the shared living room area. The kitchen is bright and inviting, lot’s of interesting art on the walls and open space to just take a breather from sightseeing or prepare your own food. Matthew is very well-traveled and gave us a bunch of great tips for hidden gems and ethnic places to check out in and around the city. The bedroom is very clean and well ventilated with a ceiling and floor fan. Added plus is the desk equipped with guidebooks and a map of NYC for those who would like to orient themselves before exploring. The location of the apartment itself is ideal for catching the E/M/7 train into Queens/Manhattan… one stop from 42nd Street, and only three from Central Park. But if you don't want to leave the area, there area bunch of little cafes and quaint little restaurants within walking distance. And about 10 minutes away is a cute little park facing the East river and Queensboro Bridge, providing beautiful views of the Midtown Manhattan skyline! Go to watch the sun set, you won't be disappointed. So thank you Matthew (and Laura) for a great time in LiC.
I enjoyed my stay with Laura & Matt during in Long Island City! They were both great hosts - very warm, welcoming, and friendly. They gave us a lot tips about the area and were always open to sit down to talk. Location was ideal as it was easily accessible to and from Manhattan where I was working. It was also a 5 minute walk to the beautiful Long Island City park next to the East River. Train station was very close and so was the grocery. Also a short bus ride from hip areas in Williamsburg. Highly recommended for a quiet location close to Manhattan.
Matthew & Laura are a very hospitable couple. We had great breakfasts, and when the weather turned warm he installed an air-conditioner for us. The apartment was spotless. The locks to the apartment were slightly difficult, but we soon worked out the trick to turn the keys easily.
The neighbourhood is very safe, at all times, peaceful, less than five minutes walk from the subway. Taxis available at all times. A park by the East River within ten minutes walk, with great views of the UN building and the Manhattan skyline, perfect for a picnic, or just sitting and reading books borrowed from our host's extensive and varied library.
