I am a 31 year-old who enjoys running, cycling, Jesus, group exercise, snowboarding, personal finance, neighborhood engagement, meeting new people, and spending time with friends. I am originally from Michigan, but now consider Louisville "home".
Response from Jeff:
The morning after this particular group checked in, I checked with Matthew to see if anyone was at the house, as I needed to swing by and grab a jacket. He replied that he wasn’t sure because he actually hadn’t been at the house since 9pm the previous night. He also mentioned he left two friends at the house and wasn’t sure if they would still be there or not. This vague response left me with a strange level of uneasiness, one of which I’ve never felt in 2 years as an Airbnb host. At that moment, I was compelled to check on my house. Upon arriving, I knocked, waited a bit, and knocked again. As I stuck my head in to say “Hello?” the unmistakable smell of cigarettes greeted me. (One of my few house rules had been clearly broken, and I knew that the house would need to be properly cleaned in preparation for my next guests.) There were cigarette butts on the wood floors, ashes and butts in Solo cups (ashes burnt holes in several of the cups), ashes on the ottoman…you get the picture. They had also left a candle burning.
So, thanks to a little white vinegar, baking soda, open windows, and an unscheduled deep clean, the house was back to normal by the following afternoon and ready for my next guests!
Clarification - This group had booked the house for 2 nights (not 3 as the review indicates). Also, the nature of this review is unrepresentative of the guests’ apologetic tune maintained during lengthy text & phone conversations surrounding the incident.
