We chose Haiku Cottage because of several good reviews, even if the pictures weren't so good and clear: maybe we had too high expectations but we have been a little bit disappointed when we arrived.
It's true: the cottage is very big and the kitchen is full of all tools you can need during a (long) vacantion, but most of the stuff is old and the house looks uncared: bed linen and towels are old and shabby, blinds and mosquito nets are damaged and partial broken, the garden is neglected and not particularly inviting with plants overgrown and beatles in the BBQ. Bathroom as well is not so inviting: hot tube is old and seems dirty, it's difficult understand how to use shower controls. Not an high quality of sleep anymore: blinds are missing pieces, so light enter very early in the room and there are some roosters in the neighbour that use start to crow about 5 AM!
It's an affordable cottage but overall I'd liked pay something more but enjoy a better and cleaner stay!
However, Devi is very kind and helpful: when we arrived, the cottage was not clean as it was supposed to be, we asked her to clean up again and she did it immediately and apologized for the problem. Before arriving, she answered quickly to our mails. During our stay, she also offered us some flowers and fruits.
We suggest her to post new pictures and a more detailed description of the cottage: with a little bit of more care, it could be nice for a long and affordable vacation, maybe for sporty people that comes to Maui to windsurfing in Ho'okipa (very close to the cottage).
Unser Gastgeberin war grossartig. Wir verbrachten 3 tolle Tage in der schönen, völlig abgetrennten Cottage und fühlten uns sehr wohl. Wir würden jederzeit wieder hingehen. Wer etwas Ruhe sucht, liegt hier richtig!
Pascal was great! Welcome back anytime!
Devi was incredibly welcoming! The neighborhood was perfect - so close to Paia - we went to Baldwin beach numerous times. It was a lovely stay.
The Haiku Cottage was perfect! We highly recommend the fish taco stand in Haiku, and fell in love with Hookipa Beach, located just minutes away. The Cottage had everything we needed from sunscreen to the perfect filet knife and grill basket for our ahi tuna. Our hostess was amazing and we loved our stay. We can't wait to come back!
My family of 5 (Hubby and 3 kids 5yo, 2yo and 6month) stayed for 2 nights! Devi called/e-mailed several times to check in with us and was very helpful with suggestion. We were out and about often so we did not have the privilege to meet in person. The Cottage had everything we needed. It is two stories which my kids are not use to so that stressed me out a bit at times. BUT Devi did leave a baby gate there for the stairs which helped a great deal. She also provided a playpen! The location was easy to find and close to north shore, paia, to the start of Hana. Great place! My girls loved the jacuzzi, which was a nice tropical private yard with jacuzzi! Definitely nice for a couple getaway.
My partner and I had been researching hotels in Maui, and we were exhausted from trying to find an affordable place when one of us said, "Have we checked airbnb?" We hadn't, so I logged on and started searching places. I am so grateful that we did. We found Devi's place (the Haiku Cottage), and immediately began researching the quaint town of Haiku. It was exactly what we didn't know we were looking for. The cottage is fabulous. It (and the town of Haiku) is right off the Hana Highway, close to the town of Paia (you will buy groceries here - I promise). It's easy to get around from here. We did it all: Haleakala (the sunrise and the 13-mile hike), west Maui, Hana, Momma's Fish house (save up for this one, but definitely eat here)... you name it.
Devi (the host) is fabulous. She is communicative and goes out of her way to think of the things you won't remember to think of when you pack. Things like, beach towels and a boogie board. Her kitchen is stocked with all of the cooking gear you could ever need, which is another reason my partner and I had such a wonderful time here - not a luxury we would have had at a hotel. The private hot tub is great as well. I forgot how many stars a person can see when there aren't city lights around.
If you're considering a trip to Maui, then consider staying at the Haiku Cottage. It is an enchanting place that will feel like home.
We loved staying in the Haiku Cottage! What a sweet, cozy, relaxing space it is. We felt right at home from the first step into the cottage. The kitchen/living area is very convivial, and it was nice to hang out and cook dinner. We used the hot tub both days we were there - very nice space to just enjoy the Maui weather. Everything you can think of was provided. There was even a picnic basket and cooler to take to the beach, along with beach towels, chairs, umbrella and boogie board. Definitely recommend other guests to stay here - it was so great to stay away from the resorts and all the congestion of touristy places.
We had an amazing time here! The pictures don't do justice. The bedroom is upstairs and it's very large. It's like a loft but has more privacy. We loved seeing the sunrise from the bedroom window and the partial view of the ocean. Devi keeps the place clean and organize and we had our own entrance. Couldn't have had a better stay on Maui.
Devi was so kind and adjusted our dates at the last minute. A nice location on the North Shore of Maui with a great little kitchen and sunny backyard. Thanks Devi!
