Hello everyone! Some of the things I enjoy are travel, good food, good friends, music, and TV shows. I look forward to being your host in Shanghai soon!!
Bernard's place worked out great for 4 of us. Good location in the French Concession. The apartment is a decent size and the maid service made sure it was clean when we arrived.
Bernard was very responsive and helpful by providing info like the WiFi password and directions to the apartment in advance. The showers had great water pressure when used separately. The dryer took awhile, so we wound up air drying some of our clothes.

Booked the place for my immediate family members as my wife and I were getting married in Shanghai. I've lived in Shanghai personally for many years. The location is really great and conveniently located to many popular expat restaurants and bars/lounges. However the stay could've been a lot better. My family members don't smoke, and the room was completely smoky inside when we walked in. We had to run the a/c in all rooms and open the window (even though it was super hot and humid outside during summer) just to breath in the room. The internet didn't work, and the trash cans were filled with trash and empty cigarette boxes. The overall cleanliness of the place was a 1.5 to 2 star motel at best. The only reason why I gave the place 3 stars out of 5, was because Bernard was pretty quick to remedy the situation by getting someone over the next day to fix the internet, and overall easy to reach. Of course I was super busy during time planning wedding things, so I had to apologize to my family members for their stay (and the smoke). In retrospect for the price per night, I should've spent a few more dollars and got them hotel rooms instead. Great location though, and if you're a smoker it is a lot of space for the price and you get a bunch of nice channels on the satellite tv (in living room only).
Bernard's description of his place was right on. Beautiful building and apartment. There's everything that you need around the French Concession. I would highly recommend Brioche Doree across the street to the right for breakfast and take away sandwiches for the day. Definitely use (website hidden) to get oriented with the city. Dragonfly up the street has good massage packages and a good nail spa for a good price.
Unfortunately, the apartment was not cleaned when we arrived, but Bernard was very quick to get a cleaning lady over to take care of business. Great shower and air conditioning. Very comfortable beds. The internet was so helpful even if China has strict regulations on (website hidden), Youtube and (website hidden). Make sure you notify (website hidden) friends that you have zero access while in China!
We did have the honour to have met Bernard on our way out. He's super sweet and kind. He was always accessible online for questions and requests. Thank you Bernard for sharing your home with us!
We loved staying at Bernard's place! The apartment was spacious (we had 6 people comfortably stay), the doormen were excellent (no English though) and the location was ideal.
We had slight issues with the washing machine (leaked water), and communication during our stay was not great, but overall a positive experience.
It is a very nice building in a very nice and lively area in Shanghai.
Communicating with Bernard was very easy and straightforward.
The apartment was nicely equipped (washer, dryer, kitchen, 2 huge TVs, Apple TV, Stereo - what more can you dream of).
We had quite some cockroaches in the apt. And we also got some pretty nasty flee from there. Maybe it isn't Bernards fault at all but one of the last guests brought these with them - but still - it needs to be fixed...
Nice flat good location.

Communication with Bernard was clear and although I did not meet him, the key pickup went smoothly. The flat itself is spacious and modern with a really great location that's near many restaurants and night life attractions. I would absolutely stay here again!
The listing really does say it all--this place is in probably the best location to experience the fullness of Shanghai. It is not the place to experience just the glitz and flash of the new Shanghai--it has easy access to those as well--but more importantly it is right next to some of the old alley neighborhoods that still serve the best steamed buns (and Shanghai, which has given the world the xiaolongbao, is known for its steamed goodies!) for ridiculously low prices. To access those, head for Xiangyang Lu and see just how much 75 US cents can feed you. A lot of other hip and happening boutiques and restaurants and cafes along Xiangyang Lu as well, not to mention the Xiangyang Park, home to morning tai chi exercisers and evening public dancing.
So a fantastic location, right in the heart of the old French Concession. Easy access to the subway (South Shaanxi station on the #1 line is the closest) and food and supermarkets and fruit markets.
Inside, yes it could be cleaner inside, but if you travel right, you will appreciate the place for its great A/C, a washer/dryer, a place to eat all the stuff you brought back with you, 2 bathrooms and beds galore.
On a side note, we did arrive when Bernard was not in town. Responsibilities were delegated to 'friends,' but let's just say that we were stuck for 45 minutes in the lobby without that knowledge and had to harangue the building manager to roust his friend to letting us in. Not a comfortable feeling, left out in the lobby of a residence in a huge city, not knowing if we'd be let in, not having any other hotel accommodations arranged for, spending 3/4 of an hour in limbo on a late afternoon turning into evening. It might have turned into a nightmare if we did not speak Chinese. Find more dependable friends to run the place is my advice!
This is, however, the absolute best location to experience the vibrancy and local flavor of the world's most interesting mega-city.
