The home was located in a great part of town, it was very comfortable, and Tess was great company. I would change nothing. Thank you for a lovely stay!
Jane's home is cozy and has everything you need to feel at home in DC. It is well located close to attractions and nice restaurants.
There is a cat in the house, Tess, she is such a sweet heart and it was nice to come back home to her after a day out exploring everything DC has to offer. She is very low maintenance and needs to be fed only once per day.
Jane was very responsive and kind to accommodates all our needs.
She was out of town when we were there so unfortunately we never met her but she made sure we had everything we need.
We highly recommend this place if you are in DC!
Our experience was great. The house is both charming and functional. Jane is a fantastic host. Location is unbeatable, in the center of it all, and yet on a quiet residential street. Head west to Studio Theatre, Wholefoods, Ted's Bulletin, Bar Pilar and the rest of the huge selection of unique restaurants, bars, and shops along 14th. Or head south down 10th St to City Center, the National Mall (museums), and Penn Quarter.
Columbe Coffee, in the cool alley between 9th and 10th and M and N, is awesome. It's next to the ultra-posh Rogue 24 restaurant.
We didn't meet Jane, but she stayed in communication and gave us tips and made sure we were comfortable all the way through our stay. Her place was better than the pictures depict, more clean and modern somehow, yet rustic with a free spirited feel. Located in a really gorgeous area of DC and is close to 14th St., P St., the mall, Dupont Circle, etc.. We stayed at the W by the Treasury building, which was nice, but I preferred Jane's place. Tessa was a treat for us (the teenagers adored her), but she once meowed when we had fed her and we weren't sure if she was ok, but she stopped. She never woke us up or anything. In fact sleeping next to her was totally peaceful.
My mom is going to suggest Jane's place to her sisters who travel a lot. I can't recommend it enough! Its just perfect, spacious, cozy and well situated.
Jane's house could not have fit my boyfriend and I's needs better. It was above and beyond what we expected. The house was in walking distance of everything we wanted to do and the neighborhood is cozy. We are the type that prefer a more home-y feel when traveling instead of feeling like tourists. With Jane's lovely house you get just that! The best bonus to our stay was her lovely cat, Tess. I am not always the biggest cat fan but Tess is such an absolute joy. She greets you warmly when coming home from a busy day of exploring the city. Definitely my favorite cat I've ever met. I wish I could've taken her home! Jane was a pleasure to deal with. She was informative and easy going. She told us all we needed to know and checked in once a day to make sure all was going well. We really appreciated that. We definitely recommend Jane's house for your DC stay. We will absolutely be staying at Jane's when we come back to DC.
Thanks, and meow from Tess! She's my co-hostess with the mostest! Glad you had a nice time. Jane
My friend and I spent the long labor day weekend at Jane's place and it has been a lovely stay.
Jane has been giving very detailed guidance prior to our arrival, and leaves caring instructions and sticky notes as well. The location is great. Close to national mall and tourist places. The public transit is not that good in DC I feel. We ended up using Lyft or Uber to save our time, and it costs ~$10 to reach most of the famous places of interest, which is great. We have all kinds of facilities we need in the house, and the renovation is charming, which makes us feel like at home. The collections of crafts and pictures are also worth exploring at home. The little cat Tess has been good company during our stay, and feeding and playing with the cat every day has been quite an extra enjoyable experience (Jane has left cat food for us to feed Tess). The only thing I wasn't expecting was that coming from west coast I was not aware of the mosquito issues in DC, and we got bitten quite a bit the first day. But later I know that it seems to be pretty common in DC. Once we opened the AC at home, it's no longer that bothering. Just in case you are visiting during the summer, you should be prepared for the mosquitoes in DC.
Overall it has been a great stay, and Jane has been a very kind and helpful host. We would love to come again if we visit DC next time.
We were welcomed in by Jane, and Tess the cat. Jane showed us round and gave some good advice on restaurants, marts and the neighbourhood. She was always just a call or text away and was a great host, without being intrusive in the least. Tess was very friendly, as long as she got her breakfast on time!
The accommodation is clean, neat, and very homely with books and photos everywhere, so we felt right at home. The bathroom area is clean, the kitchen well equipped and the main bedroom is extremely comfortable. The second room with the fold out bed is sufficient, if not huge. The neighbourhood is really quiet and we felt very much at home and safe although busy parts of town are only a few blocks away. It's a great place to stay.
We had a wonderful stay in Jane's home. We didn't actually get to see Jane while we were there since she was out of town, but she left very clear directions for us. I appreciated the clear communication. Also, Jane's cat is very sweet and made us feel right at home. The neighborhood is amazing! You can easily walk to wherever you need to be. There are restaurants and coffee shops all very close. I also recommend trying out the Capital Bike Share while you're visiting D.C. There are several stations really close to Jane's house. I'd highly recommend staying at Jane's home if you want to visit D.C.!
I think the listing should probably say "book-and-art-filled cozy rowhouse". This home is so full of interesting reads and beautiful things from Jane's travel! All the postcards and curios from far-flung places made me jealous. Another thing the listing should mention is that the bathroom is spacious with two sinks and a giant mirror outside the shower area so it was PERFECT for me and my three friends girls-out weekend. Never did any of us want for primping space! We really enjoyed the backyard for quiet evenings in and Tess - the great big cat - was a wonderful roommate... maybe a little demanding about breakfast but always up for a cuddle and purr :) There is a great coffee spot nearby (La Colombe) as well as a Whole Foods and all of the nightlife on 14th street. There are metro stops nearby but really this house is right in the middle of things so your better off with your walking shoes rather than your smart card. Jane was so accommodating and checked in by phone when we arrived and was always quick to email back. We really enjoyed our time here... just wish there had been more of it!
Jane is a great host. Very responsive to questions and welcoming. Her home is, as advertised, cozy, cute and very well located. Close to 14th street corridor which offers plenty of restaurants, bars and people watching. Very walkable to White House and downtown DC. For our visit it was very warm and humid, so the walk home was challenging. Also because of the weather, the home's AC struggled to cool the upstairs. The home is very close to a Whole Foods, but we liked the Giant supermarket better for price and offerings. Jane's kitchen is small, functional and well equipped. We felt very at home and would recommend her home to folks wanting a comfortable and convenient place to stay in DC. Visitors should know that the stairs to the bedroom are fairly steep, European style. Also, we just LOVED Tess, Jane's cat. Tess is also warm, welcoming and friendly.
Jane was a pleasure to host. She was in Chicago for the weekend and was completely self sufficient. She is full of great energy and was all over the city. She left the room immaculate, even took the sheets off the bed. She is a Super Host, but she is also a Super Guest. She would be welcome back any time.
Jane was a model guest!
Unfortunately, we did not get to meet but her communication was excellent. She even fed my dogs for me and washed the linens. Left the place better than she found it! Jane is welcome back any time.
Wonderful to have you you are welcome back anytime!
We enjoyed having Jane!
I had a very good hosting experience with Jane. She's very friendly, polite and respectful of the house rules. I definitely recommend her!!
Jane is also an air bnb host in her house 4 blocks from mine. She needed to stay at another place while her whole house was being rented out, and I am glad that she chose my place! I enjoyed her staying with me. She liked my dog very much. She will of course treat you place with respect, and she has great reviews under her airbnb site.
Hope to see her around soon, and feel as though I met a new friend close by.
To any potential guest thinking about staying at her place, I would definitely do so, since she is in a great area, near metro, and a short walk to museums. She has a great house, and will be very accommodating!
Jane's a fabulous friend and a wonderful host. We have known each other for years, after we met while studying French together. Jane has lived and traveled all around the world and is very cultured and knowledgeable about fun things to do while visiting Washington DC. She is a very attentive host who will make you feel welcome, yet you can feel free to come and go as you please during your visit. Jane's house is tastefully decorated, filled with books, artwork, and souvenirs from her years abroad. Also, the house has off-street parking and is centrally located in a nice neighborhood (Logan Circle), which features many restaurants, bars and shops.
Jane Meacham's home reflects her well-traveled life. Each room contains some delightful stories. I"ve been fortunate to benefit from her hospitality during numerous trips to the nation's capitol. She offers a quiet retreat in a lIvely neighborhood.
I've known Jane for a couple years now, having met while working for the same company. I've stayed at Jane's place when I visited DC. She's a wonderful host, very laid back but makes sure you have everything you need. Her house is comfortable and well decorated, and the location is great, on a quiet street but walking distance to a lot of restaurants and bars.
