Brilliant House and we got some great support from Guy & Jill with flexible arrival times and flexible leaving times. Made our entire journey around Australia a lot more enjoyable and the property is really well kept and in a good location (not too far from town and not too close, so you can pick whether to join the crowds on Flinders Street or relax at home)
simple home where the family lives in for a very good price near townsville. their son lives in the first floor. unfortunately we couldn't meet them.
Owners are nice and do not charge cleaning fee but guests need to ensure leave place as it was, including make beds and clean and hang any towels used. Also need to respect quiet time for downstairs neighbours.
Coming into Jill & Guy's place was like coming home. With family pictures on the wall and furnished in a comfy "home away from home" way, we felt we could relax and feel like it was our own for a few days. Cockatoos came begging on the back deck and there were plenty of birds in the surrounding trees. The view over the lake is lovely and it's only about a 5 minute walk to the water's edge. Just a few minutes away by car was Catherine Hill Bay - one of my favorite places on the NSW coast. Any questions we had we answered promptly and the whole experience was hassle free. Thanks so much to Jill & Guy for having their "Woodhouse" available.
great house, great vieuw,great lake
a place to go back to
It was a very placed to stayed, very (website hidden) was a great placed to stay. There was tons of great information for enjoying the surrounding areas to visit. very well organized. For me it was good to find numbers for emergency contacts just in case. The placed had many amenities, to relax and enjoy the house. It was nice to find a kitchen with everything anyone can use. I highly recomended their apartment, I felt like being at home. thank you Guy and Jill. I wish I would had time to enjoyed and adventure the surrounding suggested by your portafolio with lots of information.
An old yet clean, comfortable and elegantly decorated home located in a peaceful village by the lake. Well equiped cooking and dinning facilities with a big and food-filled fri. The sunset scene of the lake is unforgetably lovely and romatic on the fine days. In the showery days we were lucky enough to have watched a full rainbow hanging over the back yard, unforgettable! Thanks to Jill who did so care about our warmth in that bitter winter that she dropped in during her vacation to ensure that we had the promised additional heater, while Anne has always been keen to keep contact with us on phone to understand our need. Jill has advised us to visit the free entry Blackbutt Reserve where we encountered with the active koala and kangaroo and other lovely animals.
The location of the cottage is convenient enough to be a base to visit the nearby scenic spots and attractions and towns. It is just 10 min. drive to Swansea, 15 min. to Belmont and 20 min. to Charlestown shopping centre for supplies and shopping. We visited the wonderful Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery and enjoyed a picnic by the lakeside where we saw the rainbows a second and a third time. We also strolled and had picnic at the Cave Beach at Swansea and were lucky enough to meet the low tide time to reach the cave, we also strolled along the nearby historic Catherine Hill Bay beach under the blue sky. Then we went to The Entrance to watch the pelican feeding. All these journeys are within half an hour drive.
This week is the most home-feeling and enjoyable experience we ever had in Australia among the 5 times we visited there in the past 5 years. Thanks to my wife's bright idea to have this form of experience this time. Value-added to this perfect experience is the generosity of Guy & Jill & Anne to allow us to have the whole house at a very reasonable price.

While Jill and Guy couldn't be there to meet us, we were warmly welcomed by their son, who showed us around the house and gave us some great local tips for places to go.
Jill was fast at responding to my request, even though it was last minute, and staying at her place was a perfect solution. The house is great, and the bed extremely comfy! And the surrounding areas of the lake and Catherine Hill Bay are the perfect way to spend a slow Sunday morning taking in the scenery. A great experience and one we would repeat.
We had a wonderful time at Anne's Cottage.
My boyfriend and I spent weeks searching for the perfect place to take my parents for a final weekend away before they returned home to the UK. We were so lucky we found Anne's Cottage because from the moment we opened the back doors onto the lovely wooden veranda, basked in sunlight, we had a lovely stay.
Nords Wharf is perfectly positioned close to the lake, and a few minutes drive from the beach, meaning everything you need is close. Even on the Easter weekend the village was peaceful, which was great. Our hosts, Guy and Jill, were helpful and knowledgeable about the area. We even enjoyed a spin on the lake in their kayaks, which they kindly lent us.
The cottage itself was lovely, filled with character, and a great place to watch the sun set from. We would definitely like to visit again, and I know my parents went back home feeling relaxed and happy, and with great memories of our stay.
Guy and Jill and family are wonderful hosts. They welcomed me to the region and to their home, and shared invaluable local knowledge and stories. So easy to relax in their company. Highly recommended.
Guy and Jill (+ friends) came here shagged, but happy after some weeks camping in the wilds of Cape York. So were grateful to see real beds with real sheets. It is my policy to leave guests pretty much alone while I retreat to my caravan. We had a couple of brief chats, then an enjoyable (musical) get together on their last night. Peaceful responsible people who left the house so spotless I nearly spent an extra night in the 'van so as not to disturb it! ;) Thank you G & J and ladies for your company and thoughtfulness.
Guy, Jill and Emma (and their guest Dyson who visited us as well) were very nice guests. Very open-minded and helpful, they shared a lot of stories from their life in Australia. Good to know that they had a good time in London!
Very kind and educated people!!
Guy & Jill and their daughter Emma, were wonderful guests! I have not had the pleasure of knowing them personally, but I was happy to host them. My friend Roberta who welcomed them, found them very nice and friendly, and I can say that they, have taken very carefully of the house, they left everything clean and tidy. I strongly recommend them with no hesitation at all!
We had the greatest of pleasure to meet Emma (Guy and Jill’s daughter) last year, and were so pleased to hear she was returning this year with Mom and Dad. Guy and Jill are special and happy people and this certainly shows through when they stay with you. Although just a short time with us we thoroughly enjoyed their company and hope that our paths may again cross in the future.
