Welcome to Durham!
I've been here 18 years, am originally from Detroit and am one of Durham's biggest fans. I'll happily give you all kinds of recommendations, particularly where dining is concerned.
Following airbnb's lead here, I love sweeping epic-type books, especially those with all kinds of complicated and profound relationships. "Middlesex" comes to mind, as do "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay," "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," and "The World to Come." Shows? "Firefly" came to mind immediately and I just jumped on the "Downton Abbey" bandwagon (and am pretty much obsessed).
I don't know what it's like to have me as a guest. I'd imagine it's like not having me as a guest since I'm pretty low-maintenance. Having me as a host? I can promise you clean sheets and towels, a supply of good coffee, and the best wine store ever one mile away. Oh, and no, I don't have a life motto.
