I have been using Airbnb extensively for travel (work and leisure) and now am hosting at my house, here in Minneapolis. I love meeting new people and experiencing new places, but also love it when I return home to the city I love, Minneapolis.
A small note directed at all future guests: I am disappointed in this review, and was quite disappointed in Charles and his companion as guests. The stay at my home was this guest's first on Airbnb and it does seem that they had not developed an appropriate set of expectations from my lengthy, lengthy communication with them (the guest sent me more than 20 text messages on Christmas Day about things as mundane as not being able to find the broom, it was stored in plain site in the kitchen, and including a lengthy list of things that were wrong with the house, for example the silverware not being polished). With this guest it certainly seems as if they were expecting the downtown Hilton, new $5,000 pieces of furniture, and a morning cleaning, though they were paying $60 a night to stay in my home. Personally, I find so much beauty in the spirit, nuances, quirks, and downright value of staying as a guest in the homes of others using Airbnb, and I welcome all potential guests to experience the character of my 30+ year old home. This review's focus on the location being "free of trash, no broken windows, junk piled up outside or unfriendly dogs" is hard to understand. There is no reason for a guest to have expectations that they would find those items in my neighborhood - or any other in Minneapolis - in the first place. I do hope that the review left by Charles does not discourage booking by any guests that are excited about the value, size, and location of this home.
