Nazartet's place is a lovely spacious apartment. Clean and you find everything you need. The apartment is a perfect place to stay for warm summerdays and for people who don't feel shivery quickely.
The building is next to the road and there is traffic, but it was not desturbing. Nazaret was very friendly and very helpful.
Nazaret is really an excellent host ! You can follow her convenient tips. The place is very clean, nice and quiet and ther so many things to see all around... We had a wonderful stay there. We recommand it !! Chantal and Daniel.
I had a great time in Icod el Alto which is a small mountain village a twenty minute drive from Puerto de la Cruz. Puerto de la Cruz is the major tourist town in the north of Tenerife. In Icod del Alto you are near the mountains which makes it great for hiking.
Nazaret’s apartment (Casa Nayana) was spacious. The kitchen was especially big and it was my favorite place. The apartment was very clean, and equipped with all I that needed. I liked that it had no carpets (like all places I stayed at on Tenerife, which I felt added to the cleanliness). I stayed there in March and the first night it was cold, but there was a space heater that I could take with me into the kitchen and it warmed the place nicely.
In Icod el Alto I wanted to try my newly acquired Spanish and the locals were very helpful. Everybody greeted me and I loved how friendly they were. After only a few days the people in the supermarket knew me and so did the butcher and the baker - all of them are nearby Nazaret’s apartment. There is a gofio mill near by too (if you don’t know gofio - like I didn’t - (website hidden) it, it’s some local specialty). There are several supermercados but the best was on Calle Camino Real. They were very friendly and helpful and Nazaret’s mom shops there too, so It must be the best.
Icod el Alto is not for you if:
-you like to be in the thick of things
-you need night life (discotheques or similar)
-you don’t like to speak Spanish
-you want to be near a beach
You will love it if:
-you want to stay where the locals live
-you want to try your Spanish (no matter how rudimentary)
-you love to try supermarkets, butchers, bakeries and play with their offerings.
-you want to enjoy Spanish life
The school in front of the house provided me with entertainment during breakfast. One night they were rehearsing some dancing and folklore music which was muy divertido.
The street in front of the house can be a bit noisy but like everything else around it pretty much closed down at night and I slept with open windows during the night without any problems.
The first day Icod el Alto was in the clouds and rather chilly while Puerto de la Cruz was in the sun, but the next two days I was above the clouds enjoying the sun that didn’t reach the tourists at the coast.
The bed was comfortable and I slept well.
1. The shower was a bit weak and touchy and needed some getting used to (unless you like a cold shower - maybe in the summer months?).
2. There is a great roof terrace. If my wife would have been with me we could have made great use of it with a sundowner (a beer or glass of wine in the evening) IF there were a couple of chairs - even just folding chairs (I guess if you are desperate you could haul up the kitchen chairs).
3. Because my wife wasn’t with me I missed wifi. That would have been great, especially since there was no place nearby where I could (website hidden) with her (but if my wife had been with me I wouldn't have needed wifi). A radio would have been great too, especially since I was alone and I love to practice my Spanish ear (I used my ipod instead)
I had a great time at Nazaret's apartment and I was very glad I stayed there and not in Puerto de la Cruz or anywhere nearby. Icod el Alto may not be for everyone, but for me it was above the clouds and it felt like heaven.
The apartment is conveniently located for those looking to escape the main tourist areas, and close to a number of trekking paths. The hostess is very helpful and flexible.
That being said there are a couple of minuses with the apartment. As we visited in February the temperature at this altitude on the north side of Tenerife was quite low, and there's little heating in the apartment. The hostess provided a heater (again: very helpful), but it was simply not adequate to keep temperature at a comfortable level. I believe in summer it can be nice to cool down after warm days by the sea, but in winter the apartment proved to be quite chilly.
You may also want to bring ear plugs, as the building is located right next to a road with quite heavy traffic, and in particular since the sleeping room is facing the road.
That being said, for the price this apartment is a bargain. If you visit in summer and have no problems with traffic noises it is a good choice.
Sehr nette Vermieterin. Vielen Dank!
Staying at Casa Nayana was great. My friends and I were given great directions to get there, and once we arrived we were greeted by Nazaret's mother and shown the place. There were a lot of travel books available, and we felt right at home as soon as we arrived. Throughout the week, Nazaret's mother would provide us with fresh towels and sheets and even a heater upon request. Casa Nayana is a great place to explore Tenerife! It is very close to Puerto de la Cruz which was one of our favorite places to visit and it was a great starting point to travel to other part of the island. It was a great place to take a week study break right after finals!
We had a great time in Icod el Alto. The flat is very nice and clean. Nazaret was very helpful....even let her sister come to the bus station to follow us to the house. We didn´t met Nazaret.....but maybe next time.
Un lugar estupendo donde desconectar y disfrutar de la naturaleza. No conocía la isla y desde el principio Nazaret fue muy amable mostrandome distintas rutas y facilitandome un monton de información sobre la isla. En serio, muchas gracias!!!!
