I love to travel and enjoy meeting people from around the world.
This is the second time I've stayed at Medeya's place and I would definitely stay there again when traveling to Brooklyn. The location is perfect considering we drove in and there was always parking available.
The apartment was clean and there were plenty of supplies.
Jennifer met us with the key and she was very easy to communicate with before, during and after our stay. There were 4 of us and we all felt that we had plenty of room. For the price and the space I think this is a great deal!
What a wonderful apartment! Lots of space, clean, and the bedrooms are laid out in a way so that the guy who snores way too loudly can be separated from the rest of the herd. In terms of location this is about a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute bus) to get to the subway, and as I've come to expect in NYC there is plenty of good food in walking distance.
We had a very nice time. The apartment is spacious and modern with 2,5 bedrooms. For us it was important with a separate livingroom for the parents to enjoy when the kids where asleep. The kids enjoyed the toys and trampoline a lot (1 and 3 years old). And all the playgrounds nearby. The apartment is on a quiet sidestreet and the neighbours were frendly and quiet.
The bathroom downstairs still smell, but as long as we didn't turn on the bathroom-fan, the smell was contained. Overall it was clean, but some of the walls in the hallway/stairs could need a good cleaning or a new layer of paint.
Area: Many small shops and cafes. Like a lot of Brooklyn there was diverse buildings from slick new apartments to run down small warehouses. The area was quite safe. No bad incidents. Even for our 21 year old daughter who likes to come home late at night... (Manhatten felt more unsafe because of all the guns and machineguns the police carried around). Actually we ended up spending a lot more time in Brooklyn than intended as we found there were a lot to do.
Transportation: Bus to Brooklyn center right outside. To the metro it was 10 to 15 minutes walk depening on which line we wanted to take. The metro would take 15-30 minutes depending on where in Manhattan we would go. The metro was safe, but noisy and not very well maintained.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay in Brooklyn and at medeya's place although there are minor things in the condo that need to be tended to and would give the place an overall higher rating and better experience for the renter. We were out all day but it could have made for a much better impression on us. I know from owning my own rental properties near where I live in CA, that if you are not in town for repairs or to tend to the property things can get out of hand. Medeya lives another country but her assistant and niece Jennifer are there to greet you and walk you through the entire stay. Ok so here's how I feel... I'm typically a die hard high end luxury hotel junkie but after hearing so much about the site I decided to try it out. I'm glad we experienced brooklyn a great safe area very quaint and upcoming area with great restaurants you would never try any other time. The Location close to manhattan and the bridge by car. Besides the neighbors upstairs who have large African drums they play at off hours and the loud construction work in the hall way Friday morning at 11am!..really people??? Medeya was very friendly and went out of her way to get back to me quickly via email when we booked the condo she had the frig stocked with OJ, cheese, cream cheese, jam, bread, butter, & eggs. Jennifer was very accessible by phone at all times. Only thing that was a hassle was that end the end of our 7 day stay we had to check out at 11-12pm and our flight wasn't until 7 that night so where do we stash our luggage for that entire day???.... But being honest I have to say i was slightly disappointed with the minor things that really needed immediate repair on the condo and really needed some love. I asked Jennifer if Medeya ever came to visit the condo she said no which explains all the repairs needed to b done. These could all be accomplished on a long weekend. First off the entire condo needs an fresh coat of paint and I would recommend something other than white for the walls and towels. There are huge black scuff marks and dirty spots on the walls from luggage and wear and tear. The curtains in the family room are broken and hanging on the wall and u can't move them or they will fall. Their are lights throughout the house broken and not working and the house def could use more lights. The entertainment stand w the tv in on it upstairs has a broken front panel on one of the drawers which is an eye sore as it hangs there. The kitchen and bathroom are spacious but in the kitchen by the kitchen table on the wooden floor by the sliding glass door there is clear water damage. I didn't see at first...
We enjoyed our stay in this accommodation and had great communication with the owner who answered all our questions.
Impressive amount of space for staying in NYC area definitely beats staying in a hotel for the same price for 4 people.
We made good use of the cable TV and kitchen most nights both valuable with small children!
The walk to the metro is about 10 mins but its a nice walk when the weather is good and you pass some nice parks if you have children. The area appears to be up and coming with some nice takeaways and shops in the area, we made good use of the small market attached to the University.
The only negative is that some of the walls in the apartment need a refresh and a lick of paint but otherwise that is the only thing we could find at fault!
Great place to stay - very clean, nicely furnished, (website hidden), beautifully done bathrooms and kitchen, as well as a nice quaint patio.
Only setback is about a 30 min walk to and fro the train station; however, if you don't mind a nice easy walk - it isn't bad at all.
The surrounding area has some great eats and drinks (especially SoCo - southern restaurant).
We had an ok experience here. When we first moved in the basement room ceiling was flooded in, it took a week to fix and then smelled like mold in there all summer. The only full bathroom constantly smells like garbage because the refusal room is right next door and the odor seeps into the pipes and smells both sinks up very bad! Even when I threw bleach down there a number of times, it doesn't help. The apt is far from the train, about a 20 min walk, but very close to the bus. The backyard is nice yes, but can't do much back there as its where all the dogs from the building go to the bath room. We left a security deposit, and when we left some things were broke. I told medeya that some things break and it was our responsibility and to take it from our security deposit, however instead she decided to make a claim against us to airbnb. I didnt appreciate this, as we told her we would fix the things and it was unnecessary. Never met medeya, she's half was across the world, however Jennifer is a sweet heart. She checked us in and checked us out. Overall I would NOT recommend staying here.
The apartment is very slick. The apartment is huge and very clean. Has great facilities, dishwasher, there is a large TV with good selection of channels.
I didn’t get to meet Medeya, but her friend Jennifer was great help though our stay and was very cheery on the phone and great to chat to.
It’s in a perfect location with plenty of bars and restaurants on offer nearby. There is an excellent supermarket nearby. At the end of the street make a left and check out Mr Sandwich, awesome sandwiches!
Would give 5 stars but when we stayed there was a leak in one of the downstairs bedrooms and my friend found it difficult to sleep one night. But this was understandable as the rain while we were there was very server. Medeya did warn me of this before my stay and I am guessing it will fixed soon.
I had 3 couples (2 with infants) staying at Medeya's place and it worked out really well. I was very happy with the duplex and would use it again if need be.
Our stay was very good. The place is very big but there is only seating for 3 at the dining area table. The bathroom drains need work which the owner has promised to have looked after when she returns in June or July. Not quite 3 bedrooms as listed but plenty of sleeping space. Convenient to restaurants and Pratt Institute. A bit of a walk, 10-15 minutes to subway, 2 minutes to bus line.
Medeya and her guests were lovely people. As they had rented the entire apartment I only met them briefly upon their arrival, and met with them again prior to their departure. Medeya and Damein enjoyed their stay – accommodation and location, and provided some constructive feedback which is appreciated. The apartment was tidy and Medeya had commenced some cleaning activity which was and unexpected bonus.
Medeya and her guests are welcome to stay at any time of their choosing.
Medeya and her family stayed at our villa from 1 to 7 October 2012. They really enjoy their stay and we really enjoy having them as a guest. Thank you Medeya for staying with us and we hope to see you again.
