Gael's villa was a great retreat. The pool was lovely and the furniture and vibe of the villa was nice. The air-con worked well and the bedrooms were mozzie-proof. The villa is in a village without many amenities (not really any restaurants) so you will need transport. We took taxis rather than scooters as we had our baby with us. This was fine when we discovered the taxi rank at the Grand Nikko Hotel (a 10 min walk), but it would have been nice to have a welcome pack explaining where local things were. The beach is also right next to the Nikko but we also learnt this by accident! Generally a lovely, quiet villa to stay at.
A nice stay at Gaels for a few weeks. The house isn't quite as new as shown in the pictures but however still to a nice standard. We got a great deal on a moped from Super who looks after the place. We had a few issues but Gael was quick to respond and all was sorted quickly.
The house is in a local village so it is nice to be away from the chaos of tourism now in Bali however the dogs occasionally kept us up and you do need a moped to get to restaurants. This was no problem for us though. The beach is a 10-15min walk away down the left of Nikko hotel and after exploring the whole south region of Bali, I can say this is one of the best Beaches I have seen in Bali. Lots of amazing surf and only people staying at the Nikko use it so you can pretty much have parts of it to yourself.
A nice place to stay but do bear in mind this is no 5 star hotel. We had a nice time, thanks Gael!
Gael met us when we arrived and showed us around the Villa, the local restaurant and the beach, explained about the cleaner and Super. We enquired about push bikes but he was unable to assist us.
The villa is exactly as the pictures show, comfortable rooms, large main bedroom, the beach close by (10 - 15mins walk) is beautiful and not full of sellers or tourists.
The local village is charming. We cooked at home many nights as it was easier than getting a cab to a restaurant about 5km away.
Our only negatives are it is fairly isolated in terms of resturants and shops so some transport is a must. After a large thunderstorm we lost power and water for over 14 hrs, no internet for the last 3 days - I think due to a electrical spike and the pool turned green and we were unable to swim again for the last 3 days. Super tried to clean the pool and only on the last day you could see the bottom. Nov in Bali is hot.
If you are looking for a nice isolated villa away from tourists in Bali then it is worth a look, would recommend it to self sufficient people.
We spent over a month staying in Gael's house in Sawangan and were generally very comfortable. The pictures are a fair representation of the house, which is a good size and good value. The kitchen is very basic but adequate for unambitious self-catering. The air-conditioning in the large main bedroom worked well. We had some minor problems with several things that needed to be fixed - including the pool which was out of action for some days - and it took some time but were eventually sorted out by Gael or Super. Made the cleaner was very reliable and did a great job. The area is very quiet but if you get your own transport it's no problem. We really enjoyed staying in a real village and meeting the locals and their kids.
This was the perfect home for us to stay in Bali. The accommodations were perfect for us (4 adults)! It was like our home away from home! It was very cosy and beautifully furnished. The place was clean and fresh when we arrived and the maid came twice a week. The air-conditioning in the bedrooms was a welcome relief for sleeping and the internet worked well! Gael and his friend, Super Pak were very helpful and responded quickly to any questions that we had. We loved being out of the touristy area and felt part of a community. Gael was very helpful at suggesting shopping, restaurants and attractions that we would like. The neighbours were very nice and we always felt safe walking around. It was great to have laundry facilities down the street were we could drop off our laundry and pick up our clean clothes a couple days later (very inexpensive as well). We took cabs to most places but they were inexpensive. Gael recommended a driver which we used for 4 days. It was a great deal and I highly recommend him. We really enjoyed coming home at the end of the day, cooling off in the pool and having our dinner outside overlooking the garden. We felt very at-home!
The House is just as its described and showed on the pictures, it does have a lot of hearth. Both, Gael and Made Super have been very friedly and helpful during my whole stay. The houses in the neighborhood are part tourist and part local people, all of them have been very friedly. The only downside was that the maid wasnt showing up like she should(3 times a week, was more like once a week), even after telling. None the less i would definitly stay there again, if im going back to bali.
Very nice place to stay! Everything is up to the description on the site. Good design inside the house, all necessary furniture. All kitchen appliancies are in place if you feel like cooking. Taking shower under coconut tree is outstanding! If it gets too hot inside the house, air conditioning is a big relief. With a little area in front of the house you can have sunbathing not leaving the house, or make yourself a barberque day. Beach area is bit further than we expected but it really takes a few minutes if you have a scooter. Gael's friend who rents scooters gave a very good discount for 10 day rent. Gael was in Europe at the time of our stay but was responding instantly to our messages. Besides, Gael's neighbour Super was looking after us bieng very helpful and hospitable. We enjoyed our honeymoon in the house and it was marvelous time.
P.S. Watch out for the frogs in the bathroom at night) Better keep the lights on!
Sometimes at night it was hard to get asleep because of local dogs barking and some crazy cocks screaming even at midnight. We used earplugs several times.
with what can i start.... first of all i want to say that the host is a nice man but the rest terrible
1. we arrive at 1 in morning, Gael slept in a bed... sweaty... no other sheets to change the bed
2. Bathroom was a mess, I think someone threw up or something
3. no towels, no toilet paper
4. outside was a sofa with pillows were very very dirty
5. cutlery was rusty
6. in the other bed in the morning i notice that was stains of blood
7. internet connection was terrible 1 min last then we had to restart
8. then the neighborhood was ... i can not describe in words ... road with potholes (barely wanted a taxi to bring us) dilapidated houses, dubious world ..... scary " not so many white people around here" Gael's words
9. Gael warned us, not walk, checked the doors always closed .... insecurity
10. Gael has installed cameras, even in the bedroom - no privacy
11. bathrooms smelled of public toilets
and many more ....
i have to say that we were very disappointed, at the 2 o'clock in the morning we booked an hotel and left at 9 o'clock in the morning
PS I took some pictures so I can prove that I'm not rambling ... sorry I did took pictures at the neighbors
A perfect place to stay !
Perfectly welcome, pictures do not lie, a nice house, a quiet neighborhood, a beautiful beach ... I wish all those who travel to Bali to through this place.
Amazing holiday. The photos don't actually do the place justice - beautiful house and garden in a peaceful location. Host was brilliant - very helpful and everything we needed was organised really swiftly. Would recommend 100%
