Gary was an exceedingly wonderful host. I have been to Tucson several times, and this was the first time I felt like I got a feel for what special things Tucson has to offer -- and that is totally a credit to Gary. The home itself is basically a work of art, and each room is special in its own way. The theme of the house is thoughtfulness - both in terms of how each element of the house has been curated, but also in terms of how human beings can exist in harmony with our natural surroundings. The fresh eggs from the chickens, and the pleasant presence of Flora the tortoise were welcome additions to an already remarkable home. In addition to the house itself, we walked around discovering the neighborhood and all the restaurants Gary recommended were exceptional. If you have ever contemplated visiting Tucson, I highly recommend doing it with Gary as your host.
Gary is a true artist in every sense of the word. This house is so beautifully crafted that we wanted to stay forever. I took sooo many photos before leaving. Especially enjoyed the bathroom and shower. So many things here to delight the senses. Besides all this, expert advise on Tucson. Wonderful to be able to walk to the Spanish restaurant. Thanks so much for all of this! Hope to have another chance to stay and visit Flora and all the rest. Ellie
From the moment we walked in we knew that we'd chosen well. We wanted an authentic Tucson experience & got it in abundance! Every corner of the house tells a story... brimming with local artifacts, antiques, exposed walls & ceilings, beautiful & unusual furniture... along with every practical amenity needed... made it feel like home! Gary & Darren were delightful hosts, super friendly & very helpful. Imagine a welcome with open arms & then put a cherry on top!
The 'Adobe' was in a peaceful street, yet only minutes from the hubbub of Downtown Tucson, giving us chance to relax in the outdoor tub whilst watching the Arizona sunset & chilling with a pre-dinner Tequila before heading out to experience the wonderful street vibe that beckoned. Freshly laid eggs from the chickens, canaries singing their sweet song & Flora the tortoise only added to our 'home from home' experience.
Hope to return to this gem... can't recommend it enough! Di & Lou, xx
We LOVED this place. While it may not be perfect for everyone, if you appreciate history, art, and permaculture this space is the best. The house is full of creative energy, but at the same time welcoming, relaxing, and calm. The location is vibrant and accessible. The hosts were extremely helpful without being overbearing. We will definitely want to stay again.
FANTASTIC experience! Gary could not have been more accommodating or welcoming. We were in touch via texts and email before our trip, and were met at the house with a tour to get us acclimated. In addition to a booklet filled with interesting historical info and details about the house, Gary left us a personal note giving us added ideas about ways to enjoy the house and things to do in Tucson. MOST IMPORTANTLY....this house looks great in the photos, but WAY exceeded our expectations! It is spacious, charming, comfy, cozy, unusual, artistic, and eclectic down to every last detail. We loved sleeping there, waking up there, cooking there, getting fresh eggs from the chicken coop every morning, eating on the charming patio, laying in the hammock, showering in the open air bathroom shower, looking around at the wonderful collectables and art...and basically, didn't want to leave!! Can't wait to return and will highly recommend. Treat yourself and stay at Gary and Darren's house! Thx, guys!
Great downtown location. Eclectic decor and historic vibe. Loved the chickens, birds and Flora the tortoise. Enjoyed the outdoor bath tub and wild arugula in the backyard. We will be back. Thanks for the hospitality.
Gary gave us a great tour of the house. He obviously has put a lot of work into the place and we really enjoyed the unique features, especially the book collection, the artwork, the chickens and the tortoise. We really liked the location. The house is located within easy walking distance to restaurants and the Children's Museum. Gary was extremely flexible and went way out of his way to help us when our travel plans changed unexpectedly. We would highly recommend this property.
We had a great stay. The host was very accommodating, easy to work with and made us feel very welcome. It was a real treat to get to stay in this very special historical home. The house is spacious, beautifully decorated and has a lush and private backyard. We highly recommend!
Gary is a wonderful host and the home is beautifully designed. We thoroughly enjoyed our time visiting great nearby restaurants and taking spectacular drives in the mountains on routes Gary was able to recommend. Thank you for making us feel so welcome!
This place was quite an eyeful. We kept changing our seats to make sure we took in all the wonderful art. Sleeping in the hidden library was incredible and very calming. The house temperature was perfect even though we thought it would be on the cold side. Gary was a very attentive host and provided wonderful suggests for where to eat and what not to miss. The neighborhood was quiet and centrally located.
Gary was facilitating for a family member who stayed at La Casita. He couldn't have been nicer, and it was a real pleasure to meet him. His guests were also very nice, and left the place as they found it. I was more than happy to work with Gary and accommodate his family--they were a treat!
Gary and his partner, Darren, were very friendly and perfectly lovely guests. We hope to be able to stay in their place when we are in their area visiting family next.
Gary, Sofie, Darren and Sandra were all lovely guests. Very personable, friendly and respectful. They left everything tidy and graciously invited me out for dinner and coffee. Would happily host them again.
