My name is Jon. I am 27 years old and I have lived in Florida most of my life with the exception of about 2 years when I was moving around out west working on wind turbines. My day job is exporting used heavy construction and mining equipment from the US to all over the world. It is good to have a job but it really gets in the way of my free time.
I would not describe myself as a hippy or a “green environmentalist” but I really like the idea of growing / catching my own food, reducing waist and recycling organic mater to improve the soil. Recently I have been getting real interested in composting, gardening and eating locally. I'm just learning but I have started a few small raised garden beds and I just started a vermacompost project with Red Worms I bought from Uncle Jim's Worms online. (the worms eat the compost and turn it into great dirt!)
Epic adventures that involve fishing and any type of activity on a boat are what I enjoy most. Last year my friends and I took my boat to the Marquesas Keys 30 Miles west of Key West. We saw water spouts, abandoned Cuban refugee boats and crystal clear water. We caught everything from Barracuda to Mahi Mahi to Grouper and I have never in my life seen such a concentration of sharks and sea turtles! It was amazing. 4 guys spending all night on a 17' boat was not amazing. This summer I plan to take my boat across the gulf stream to Bimini Bahamas. The weather is usually calm in the summer and it is only 50 miles from Miami to Bimini it will be a great adventure.
I graduated Eckerd College class of 2008 in St. Pete and have a BA in international business.
