I'm an anthropologist and geographer by training, but I recently started my own company to build open source software that makes cities & government more approachable, equitable and efficient, so I spend a lot of time thinking about user interface design and data analysis and visualization. Outside of work I love reading, backpacking and experiencing experimental art. I sometimes design my own projects to fabricate using 3D printers, laser cutters and microcontrollers.
I've lived in France and Morocco and traveled in Asia and Europe, and a tiny bit to Latin America. My favorite recent trip was to Iceland, where I did a lot of camping and hiking and was generally awestruck by the majesty of nature. I've also really loved my time in cities like Oaxaca, Kyoto, and Chiang Mai with their emphasis on traditional crafts and delicious food (especially street food!).
I love meeting my hosts and getting their recommendations and perspectives, but I tend to spend most of my time wandering the streets of new cities rather than at the house. I'm likely to return home with a suitcase full of textiles and local treats.
