We had a wonderful stay at Claudia's adorable bohemian flat in Milan! This was a more authentic experience than more generic, pristine flats that are so often rented out now. You can tell Claudia has put a lot of love into her home, and it has real style and personality, like the host.
The area is great. It's just adjacent to the Navigli but it's an easy distance from the tourist destinations too. We walked to the Castello Sforzesca in around 30 minutes. Trams also leave regularly to go to the Duomo and Castello (around 10 min trip) if you don't want to walk, and the metro is just as close and takes you directly to and from Central Station on the green line as well.
There are lovely cafes, bars and restaurants on this street and in the area, as well as lovely small shops. For groceries there is a huge Esselunga supermarket around a 10 minute walk away as well as a Picard frozen food chain and a health food store place much closer. The yummy rotisserie chicken shop on the way home from the Tram/Metro was a frequent temptation!
Although not technically separated from the rest of the space by a door, the bedroom is actually very private. The 360-degree spiral staircase and height of the ceilings makes it more private than most attic-loft bedrooms. My husband and I stayed up there and my father on the futon in the living room and it felt like two separate rooms. The mattress in the bedroom is a very thick futon mattress on tatami mats and very comfortable with a wonderful down comforter.
The little kitchen had everything we needed and felt like cooking in a cozy cottage. Claudia was very generous with the items in her pantry so we had all the basics and more. The bathroom shower was newly re-tiled and everything worked well. The washing machine works and is very handy during a longer stay. The wifi was easy to access and there was only a brief hiccup in signal during a week-long stay, but this is usual in Milan and was soon restored.
Some noise came up from the restaurants on the street at night, (a bit more audible when sleeping in the living room) but it didn't keep us up. If you're an especially light sleeper you might want to bring earplugs. Also, for a smoking flat we were surprised how un-smokey the it was (we're nonsmokers who are quite sensitive to smoke). The only times we found it noticeable were on a couple of occasions when a neighbour may have been smoking. But this was only once or twice during a week long stay.
We highly recommend Claudia's flat. She was a great host and always very prompt in replying to my queries before and after booking and during my stay. Grazie mille Claudia!
This apartment was perfect! Claudia was a wonderful host, and the apartment was very clean and supplied with everything you could ever need for cooking, cleaning, bed linens towels laundry soap . Everything was there. The view and location were perfect for me, looking out the kitchen window you can view the straight walk to the duomo, plazzo vecchio, and santa croce is just next door. The neighborhood is very quiet and a is a true florentine area.Though take into mind that there is no elevator and if you older it may be an issue. It was fine for me, I felt I could eat more pasta after the climb. I loved it and wish I was still there. Thank you Claudia
