I never liked cold weather, and when I came to Puerto Rico in February of 1968, from New York, I got off the plane, those balmy tropical breezes hit me and I said "this is the way to live". I traveled around the Caribbean a bit, but Old San Juan, with its cobblestone streets and 500 yr old buildings, just dripping with charm, "got" me, and I became what we call here, a shipwreck case, (those who came for the weekend and never left).
I started making jewelry out of shells and whatever, and eventually found myself with a "real" business, selling crafts from around the world and jewelry I make from inspiration and components I've found on my travels.
I have a fascination with the ancient and hand crafted, and over the years have visited most of the Latin American as well as American Indian architectural sites and European pre historic Dolmens and yurtas.
I still go to more civilized places for trade shows, in Paris, Milan and the US, but I've stayed in every imaginable accommodation from tree hotels in the Amazon and cave hotels in Cappadocia, to salmon farms in Iceland and palaces in Portugal; even the world's worst hotel in Marrakesh, where absolutely nothing worked - but what a view!
So when I started renting the apartments on the second floor as short term rentals, I had a pretty good idea of how to furnish and equip them from my own experience of what I would want if I were staying there.
I've lived in Old san Juan for over 30 years. My business is on the first floor of the building, and I live on the 3rd floor over the rental properties.
