Awesome, awesome place. Three of us were just there for six weeks and absolutely loved it. The place is as pictured, the beds (especially the king) are so comfortable, and everything we could possibly need was already there: extra sheets, towels, detergent, dish soap, trash bags, paper towels. Literally everything we could need. Derek is the best host. During our six weeks just a couple things came up and his response was always immediate. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in his place. Also his close friend lives downstairs, and he was also lovely and available if we needed anything.
The neighborhood, as others have written, is not the best, but it is a five minute walk to Dundas Square and central to a lot of other cool places. Also when we needed a cab or uber we never waited for than a couple minutes. I highly recommend the Santouka Ramen shop on the walk to Dundas Square. It is superb.
The TV, Internet, washer dryer, and heating were awesome (we were there December and January). Again, the beds were great. I loved the kitchen and the whole space is very open and roomy. It snowed a couple times and the stairs had salt on them before we even used them.
We would highly recommend this place, and all the reviews say it for a reason, Derek is the best host I've ever had on Airbnb.
Derek's place was great! Our first Airbnb experience could not have been more enjoyable and smooth. Spent the weekend there and loved the location and all of the space that this place had. Everything was clean and the beds were very comfortable.
Derek set us up with an early check-in and late departure which was very accommodating and gracious. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Derek was a great host. Prompt in responding to my messages, made it easy to sort out key-exchange, and gave pertinent info about amenities in the area. The house was quirky and comfortable.
Great communication from Derek, quick and friendly. House was as expected, clean and in a great location. Nice stay for a business trip as everything we required was in walking distance.
The host, Derek, was amazing. Sometimes I do not understand how hosts can respond so fast, almost seconds after I send a question. He fixed the gate lock within an hour, and all I texted was that it was 'a bit touchy' lol. The best part of Derek's place is the interior - it has a touch of 'cool' to it - pool table works fine, decorations are cool, it is comfortable, 3 beds and 2 couches, and...drumroll...the master bed is freaking amazing comfort wise. Best pillows and sheets ever! Ok, on to the neighborhood. One could highlight the close walk west to get to Dundas Square right at Yonge. Plenty of restaurants and bars - I recommend the Queen and Beaver, a 10 minute easy walk, a very laid back English pub with a homey feel. My favorite hangout though was Ryerson University - there is a cool coffee shop (Balzacs) situated close to the campus, with a lot of energy and activity due to the university. There is a good poutine shop steps from the apartment. The apartment has 2 floors and the TV works great with awesome cable. Don't forget you can do a street view through google if you want to see the streets around the area. I want to stress again how responsive Derek is, and how comfortable the beds and couches are in the place. Thanks!
The accommodation itself has tons of character, and is an extremely comfortable place to stay. We used it as our base while on a business trip, and it was a very convenient location. The neighbourhood is a bit rough, and we saw a few interesting characters near the accommodation, but we had no trouble with any of them.
Derek was very helpful, and responded quickly to our questions.
Overall an excellent place to stay!
Derek's place is a gem. Our group of 5 had a ball. While the neighbourhood is a bit 'sketchy', we know it
and are comfortable. The historical architecture is amazing. We'll definitely be back. Derek is a good host in that he is responsive and organized. Many thanks for accommodating us! Lori
Great place and exactly as described. Derek was perfect host. Recommended and would stay again.
Derek's place is great! The modern decor mixed with Old World charm makes for a very comfortable, fun, and cool stay. The pool table in the living area was a hit! The beds were incredibly comfortable, the towels fluffy, the appliances easy to use.
When there was a surprise internet slowdown and outage, Derek stepped in to get it fixed ASAP and compensated us for having to make other arrangements for web access. And it was fixed quickly indeed.
What's more, I forgot to print out the City of Toronto parking permit I bought online before we left. I emailed it to Derek while we were en route and he had it printed and waiting for us when we arrived.
Some have noted that the neighborhood is transitional. And it is, but this means that there is some very tasty food very nearby, like George's BBQ across the street. It's also a mere stone's throw to downtown's attractions. We walked to Eaton Centre (10 mins), to St Lawrence Market (20 mins), even to and from the CN Tower (30 mins.) We even found that many of the less fortunate folks we passed on the street (near the house, further into downtown, and even near UToronto--Toronto does not seem to hide or sanitize its homelessness the way many U.S. cities do these days)--many of these homeless folks were polite and friendly.
You will not find a more convenient, spacious, or memorable spot so close to all Toronto has to offer. Book a stay at Derek's today!
Derek was very accommodating in letting us into the house when our schedules did not match up, and he was quick in getting back to us when we made the request. He made sure we were in and comfortable and not far in case we needed him. But we didn't. His house is spotless, large, and comfortable, and so many amenities! We enjoyed the two large bedrooms with large closets, plus the deep tub where my travel companion enjoyed a bath! Although not used, the washrooms open up to a gorgeous outdoor sitting space. The house was very close to a streetcar that ran east/west, and the house was not too far of a walk to Dundas Square and the subway lines if we decided not to take the streetcar. Even at night we felt safe and happy the house was close to things. My travel companion (and I now too!) enjoyed being close to a Tim Horton's and some restaurants on the same street. We would definitely stay at Derek's house again and recommend it to anyone looking for an attractive stay at an attractive price in an up and coming neighborhood that is not congested or noisy with too many people.
Derek was a perfect guest. He was quick and easy to communicate with and left the house in perfect condition. We would love to have Derek stay with us again whenever he is back in Vancouver!
Derek was a great guest. He was clear in communication and left the unit spotless. Very happy to host him and his guests.
Derick and his friends were excellent guests. Very polite and respectful of the property. I hope to see you and your friends soon!
It was great hosting Derek ...easy, considerate guest!!!
