We really enjoyed our stay at Gabriela's Venice retreat. The space is clean, uncluttered and cozy. The outdoor living is what southern California is all about. Everything is conveniently located. Venice Beach is really close by, along with the cafes, restaurants, shops of Abbot Kinney Blvd.
Gabriela is friendly and lives in the main house. So she is always around if you have queries.
I would stay here again in a heart beat.
We stayed here for five nights and it exceeded all of our expectations. The guesthouse is so beautiful and so is the garden surrounding it. The guesthouse has everything you need for a good stay, providing the most essential kitchen equipment. Although, with all the great restaurants nearby, we did not do a lot of cooking. The location is perfect for exploring Venice and Santa Monica. Abbot Kinney is just a short stroll away with everything you need for shops, cafes and restaurants. We arrived very late and thanks to Gabriela that was all taken care of. She is very sweet and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely stay here again.
My friend and I had a wonderful time staying at Gabriela's pool house. The place is just as described/ pictured in her photos and Gabriela was a gracious and caring host, checking in on us periodically. The place itself was clean, cute and had plenty of storage so we could move our suitcases out of the way. The neighborhood is safe and convenient with easy parking on the street. We got to use the bikes and BBQ and even did a load of laundry before continuing our travels. All in all a great experience.
Gabriella was the most caring host! Easy going and very attentive to us and our needs. The garden is beautiful and the area cute with lots to see nearby. A nice walk through the neighbourhood down to Abbot Kinney and further to Venice beach. We stayed for three weeks in Jan/Feb with a small baby (which raises the demands on comfortability) and believe the house will do better for shorter stays and during warmer months when it's nice and warm in the evenings and possible to sit outside for dinner. Since there's no real kitchen and dining area and too cool outside we sometimes missed that.
Thanks a lot Gabriella!
This is the most difficult review I've had to write so far because there are good things and also some not so good things about my experience at Gabriela's place. The guesthouse is quite nice if somewhat "musty" smelling. I had 2 primary criteria in choosing a place. The first, that the accommodations have 2 beds in separate rooms; the second, was that smoking be permitted on the grounds (I never smoke indoors in my own home either). I assumed that a facility that advertises wifi would actually have a functioning wifi. The first 2 criteria were satisfactory, the assumption i.e. the wifi was definitely not satisfactory.
Both beds (1 in the actual bedroom and 1 in the living room) were very comfortable & the linens and blankets were of good quality as were the towels in the bathroom etc. If I had stayed there at some time other than mid-winter (Jan. 8-15), I'm sure I would have enjoyed the pool and the outdoor dining table. In the event, the weather was cold and rainy so the fact that there isn't a table for dining in the guesthouse was an inconvenience requiring us to eat with plates on our laps. The kitchen equipment was fine but the curtain pole for dividing the tiny kitchen area from the living room/2nd bedroom was quite flimsy and came crashing to the floor at our first attempt to open/close them. The curtain isn’t really necessary anyway. The TV and audio system were functional, but not of particularly high quality. The biggest negative was the wifi system. It barely registers in the guestroom so when I had to do work requiring strong and fast internet access (every day in my case), I had to go to the main house to get a strong signal. Gabriela and her daughter Julia were kind enough to permit me to do so. Otherwise I had to use the iPhone's 4G/LTE connection if I wanted any internet access speed while in the guesthouse. As I was using a prepaid cell phone plan, this turned out to be quite expensive - it eats up the data plan. Gabriela and Julia were kind enough to allow me to use their printer for some short but important documents. This was much appreciated. We didn’t get the opportunity to use the bicycles because of our work schedule, but that would be a bonus.
The guesthouse actually consists of a small suite - bedroom, kitchen/living room with sofa bed, bathroom/shower and a separate room with a bed, toilet and shower that is usually occcupied by a foreign exchange student. My sense is that for the price - $200/night including the cleanup fee and Airbnb’s “commission”, the entire guesthouse would be about right. I was left with the sense that it’s somewhat overpriced - at least for the winter season.
My overall experience was acceptable but not as satisfactory as other Airbnb places where I have stayed in the area.
Schöne Unterkunft, sehr gute, zentrale Lage. Ruhige Lage, tropischer, gepflegter Garten. Angenehme Nachbarschaft, in "Hippes" Wohngebiet in Venice. Vieles ist gut zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad zu erreichen. Gute Esslokale vor Ort.
Hat uns sehr gefallen!
We had a lovely stay at Gabriela's guesthouse. She is a wonderful host, very accommodating and always happy to help. It's a great location, and the guesthouse is very private. Around the corner is Superba food and bread for great coffee and delectable food!! We thoroughly enjoyed staying here, really got an authentic Venice experience and would highly recommend staying here to anyone visiting the area!
Gabriela's guest cottage was everything we needed. You are definitely in her backyard, so you need to be good with hearing the activities of her family. Having said that, we were left to our own devices so you can interact as little or as much as you wish.
Gabriela has all of the rules of the house, tips for the neighborhood, and restaurant recommendations at your fingertips. We didn't have to ask for anything although Gabriela would have been happy to help us with anything we needed.
The neighborhood is great! Walking distance to Abbot Kinney and even the beach if you don't mind a longer trek.
We were very happy with the place. The outside deck is beautiful and the neighborhood is nice and quaint.
I booked Gabriela's place for my mother while she was in town to visit me. It was lovely- in an ideal neighborhood (check out Superba, right down the street for breakfast), clean and quiet. Gabriela was very accommodating. I would book it again.
