This is a typical (old but charming) Mile End flat on a very lovely street. It is very spacious - even the small bedroom (the single bed) is a good size. There was an empty dresser in the big bedroom and an empty wardrobe in the small room, so there's plenty of space to unpack. Both balconies are lovely spots to have a beer and relax at the end of the day. It is a third-floor walkup, so not good for those who have problems with stairs.
The neighbourhood is amazing. I used to live in the area, so I may be prejudiced, but I don't think so! It's less noisy than the Plateau and, in my opinion, with better, less touristy restaurants, cafes, and bars. Also great grocery shopping. The BEST coffee is half a block away at Cafe Olimpico. I would stay here again!
Bettina and Charles were very responsive and helpful before and during our stay at the apartment - we put great trust in their abilities to manage our time there.
We really lucked out with this place: an interesting neighbourhood not to far away from hangouts and sites like Mont Royal, great shopping (lots of vintage and famous bagels nearby!), an old-style spacious Montreal row house with balconies, hardwood floors, a separate toilet from the bath...lovely!!
Note: bring your eye mask if you're sensitive to light in the morning and want to sleep in and the double bed is in the room that hosts the living room, but there's a curtain to separate the two areas. Otherwise - superb!
A great location, the apartment is very "mile-end". Charles was a lovely host, very helpful and friendly.
This was a great authentic Montreal style apartment, complete with the long stairs from the street leading up to the front door. Bettina's place is very central. Not downtown, but in Outrement where there are many great cafés and restaurants to walk to nearby.
We met Charles, who was taking care of the apartment and who gave us the keys. He explained the parking situation (street parking) so we were able to snag a spot for the weekend and did not move our car til our stay was done. Charles showed us where everything was and was very helpful and available by phone if we had any further questions.
The apartment is large and comfortable, with one separate single bedroom for one person as well as a couch that is convertable to a single bed in the living room. There is a double bed in the second room that is attached to the living room and has a curtain that can be pulled closed between them. The toilet is separate from the bathroom which is helpful for a group of people all trying to get ready to go out the door at the same time. This is ideal for a family with two kids or a couple and two single people.
There are a lot of 24 hr bagel shops right around the area where we picked up warm bagels, lox and cream cheese for breakfast. Also there is a coffee shop on the corner, a half a block away, if you want a good brew in the morning.
The mountain is close by and we walked from the apartment to the top of Mont Royal and down the other side to the main part of downtown and then on to Old Montreal. There are metro stops and buses near the apartment that can take you right downtown, as well, but we chose to walk.
It was quite nice to come home to a spacious place after a long day of walking to relax and chat before heading off to the nearby restaurants in search of dinner.
We would definitely stay here again!
Bettina's place was cozy, warm and in a great part of town. Despite last minute changes in my itinerary, Bettina was happy to have someone meet me at her place, at the most convenient time for me. I would definitely stay here again if I get the chance!
Cool flat in the heart of Mile End! Typical Montreal style made us feel at home.
