Katherine and her family were wonderfully welcoming! They even invited us over for New Year's Eve festivities! The cabin is perfect, such an enjoyable special place, with charm and brightness, in the middle of a huge farm and garden! The barn is magic, especially when it was lit up at night; the chickens were fun and cute, and the cows were great to experience, too. There are plenty of trails and hiking, in the area, and longer hikes at the state park. The farm-fresh breakfasts were over-the-top, served on a giant tray -- ideal for breakfast in bed!
This was the best place to stay and relax. My girlfriend and I came here once in the fall and again in the winter to celebrate our one year anniversary and it was so lovely. The family embraces you as their family and their farm is beautiful. It's a dream to any cook who appreciates local farm raised vegetables and livestock not to mention the flowers and such. Even if you just like scenery, this is the place for you!
The cottage and the farm were just as gracious as Katherine, George, and their family. They were most welcoming and attentive to our needs. We befriended chickens, pigs, bees, and even the flowers. We came here for fresh air and found a space to sit and settle our mind. The tranquillity overwhelms in the best of ways. We were lucky enough to also visit during peak fall foliage. The colors! It couldn't have been more picturesque. Come read, sit by the pond and just breathe.
We're grateful to have met this family and to begin learning of their philosophy in which they guide their farm and family--a family that seems to be doing things right for our world.
We had a fabulous return visit to this cozy home-away-from-home! The hosts were welcoming, the breakfasts just as delicious as we remembered (with honey from the farm this time!) and the flowers in beautiful bloom.
One particularly fun part of our stay was seeing that the bunnies have multiplied from one to four since we last visited. We'll be back!
Me and my girlfriend stayed at the farm cottage after 5 hectic days in New York City and Washington, DC. It was a very welcome change of pace, just what we needed! When we arrived we were greeted by George and Katharine, who were very warm and welcoming hosts. If you are looking to get some peace and quiet, this is the place for you! The morning after we arrived we had a delicious breakfast prepared by Katharine, which was a very nice surprise. We explored some of the Pennsylvania countryside while we were staying, I can honestly say it was the best part of our trip! We had quite some snow while were there, which was a pretty sight, we'd like to come back sometime in spring or summer though and see the flowers!
Amazingly beautiful farm and very welcoming hosts. We really enjoyed our stay and are planning to come back in the spring or summer to see the flowers. Thank you!
Every time we said “Well, it can’t get any better than this” it got better! Fox Hill Farm was the perfect escape from the city. Catherine & George were great hosts - not to mention the kids and cast of adorable animals. Walking around the grounds of the farm you’ll find endless opportunities and enjoy everything around you. The town of Honesdale is just as nice as the farm itself. One of the birthplaces of the American Railroad, full of culture, history AND $1 ice cream cones!!! We’ll definitely be coming back for another stay.
My husband and I are just back from a simply wonderful weekend in Flower farm cottage. The long weekend was everything we wanted from a few relaxing days in the countryside - just perfect!
Katharine and George did everything possible to make sure we had a truly great time, and we are very grateful to them for their extremely kind and welcoming hospitality. As other reviewers have already said, the farm-fresh breakfast is divine - a fabulous start to the day! But beyond this, they went out of their way to help us throughout.
The cottage itself has everything you need to feel comfortable and to be able to self-cater. We were able to buy fresh produce from local roadside stalls, and enjoyed watermelons, peaches, apples and tomatoes. The farm is beautiful, and we had fun walking around, saying hello to the animals and flowers.
Locally, we went on a great hike and enjoyed rafting at Narrowsburg - recommended by Katharine and George. We were also lucky that our stay coincided with 'Pig Mountain' - a feast, served up by local farmers and restaurants. Another evening, we barbecued and roasted marshmallows by the pond.
Thank you for such a brilliant weekend. We really cannot recommend staying here enough!
Oh, and also worth noting that you can get married on the farm, too! A beautiful rustic countryside setting!
Picture-perfect farm! We stayed for a few nights while attending a friend's wedding down to road. The farm is not too far out of town, but was hidden off the main road in a picturesque setting. There were blooming wildflowers all over the property, and the landscaping (done by the owners themselves) was lovely. It was fun to stay on a working farm. We got to play with the farm dog and cat, and see the chickens, guinea hens, and rabbit. The cattle were further out in the pasture, and we had to leave for the wedding, so we didn't get to see them.
The cottage was very clean and comfortable, and came stocked with towels and toiletries. I suggest picking up a bottle of local wine and some cheeses- there's a set of wine glasses, plates and silverware in the small kitchenette area. In the morning, we were offered a breakfast of farm-fresh eggs and locally-made pumpkin bread. Our hosts were very nice, helpful, and quick to respond to my email questions. Before we left on our way home, they offered to lead us to a local farmer's market, which was great fun. I would stay here again in a minute. I'd love to see the area in a different season.
The short summary: if you want a retreat in the Pennsylvania countryside and are fine with the presence of animals and absence of technology, staying at this excellent place is more than worth the trip!
My wife and I stayed here for one week. The place is phenomenal--even bigger than in the pictures, so long as you have 2-3 people--both inside and out. Indoor amenities are just as listed; outdoor amenities like pure air and wonderful views are harder to quantify but splendid. The dog is quite friendly, the roosters not too loud and the cows don't mind you walking the path between pastures.
The place is decorated tastefully and easy to stay in. One of my favorite amenities is the limited phone and Internet service! It's very relaxing to unplug. (If you really need connection, there is good cell service in town and the local library has computers you can use for $1/day.) The bed is so comfy that you want to sleep in, but trust me: it's worth getting up for the delicious breakfasts with farm-fresh eggs and milk.
The cottage is near the main farm house, and the family is very friendly & helpful. Katherine was prompt in answering messages and even made arrangements so we could bring supermarket food inside and save money on our trip.
It's somewhat of a drive from any major city, and you definitely need a car even to get into town [4.5 miles], but that was part of the break from busyness my wife & I sought. We hope that others can enjoy this great place almost as much as we did and would love to come back someday!
