Apartment was ok for 3 as we were not there much - would be too small to spend alot of time in there together though. The building is quite old but apartment was tidy. 5th floor - fine for us, but no elevator, if that is a concern for some. Sufficient hot water. Bed/futon a little lumpy. Apartment a bit warm - AC in kitchen but not in the best place to circulate air throughout - we saw a fan under the kitchen table the last day! Host tends to run late, but thankfully texted to let us know (a little inconvenient on check-in day as we had our suitcases) Arnold and others in building quite friendly.
Good (email hidden)bway, market and plenty of restaurants in the area.
I don't know why I paid for a "Cleaning" Fee (US$50). Two days beafore check out he said: "Clean the bathroom and kitchen". First day, the apartment was not clean, I had to clean the floor and there was a roach running around.
It's a good apartment, comfortable and good location. But bad Cleaning Policies.
before coming into apt, only i know was that he was busy for work and i would check in after 12:00 pm which he told me from first contact. the day before arriving, i was texting him for meeting time and get reply of waiting for his off duty. so i have to rearrage my visting timescale and spending 4 hrs in central park and finally meeting him around 4:30pm. He then told me he only remember two not family of three. and asked us when we would leave and told me a lot of stuff inside APT is expensive.
the host is good local guy for lot of local shop, metro information etc. the apt is very good place to go to in which we plan to go. and walking distance to metro.only i remember was the everything in apt is almost unttachable. So i have to warn my daught almost every day for not touching.
yes, we did cooking with our cooking tools expect oven etc. and cleaning everything after each cooking. and we are very careful of keeping everything inside used to be.
My daught(3 yrs) did not like steep step. and was very exciting to leave on leaving day. the day before leaving, i was texting him of leaving time around 9:30am , around 11:00pm in that night, he replyed and asked us leave around 8:30am because he has early meeting on leaving day.well, what we can do? so we have to get up around 7:10 to clean floor and everything and waiting for him show up on time but he still late around 15 minutes.
if thinking of 50 of cleaning fee, the rent price is definitely not cheap compare with our experience. We prefer to staying hotel not someone's cheap house in NY.
first time to use airbnb, and we have not got good feeling for living in other's apt with long cleaning rules.
I will start with the positives: There was always hot water available and the apartment was in the area where we were looking to stay. Unfortunately that is where it ends. The check-in time is stated as 12noon on the site, but we were told we couldn't get into the apartment until 6pm and that there was no place for us to store our bags while waiting to check-in. It was New Years Eve and we were carting our luggage around the city for 6 hours. When we arrived at the apartment, Arnold seemed in quite a rush, not interested in talking much but more interested in telling us all the rules of the house and want not to touch. The apartment is on the 5th floor so pack lightly. It may have have been clean, but it didn't feel clean. We actually bought some lysol; he has a full case of skates and shoes stored in this small space. The futon mattress was so thin you felt the slats of the frame, the sheets looked old and worn, and we were left with only 2 bath towels. We had to buy toilet paper and paper towels from the store. We also purchased a small foam pad, new pillows, new sheets, 2 more bath towels and washrags just to feel comfortable staying there. At the end of the stay, we were sent the HOUSE RULES asking us to clean the apartment, which included washing the linens, the bathroom, and such. We had paid the $50 cleaning fee and felt that should cover the cost of what we were being asked to do. We told him we were not going to do something we have already paid for, so he has since posted these on his website. Know that the cleaning fee you pay des not go toward having the apartment cleaned. Arnold is not much of a host, and we would not stay here again.
Arnold's apartment was located at a very convenient location, it is close to the subway, only steps away Central Park and a lot of shops. Arnold was accommodating and helpful, the apartment was clean and well maintained equipped with all the essentials. The price is also reasonable for a NYC apartment of this size and location during the New Year season. Will consider staying with him again the next time we visit
