We stayed at AJ's place for a week and it was a very pleasant experience. AJ is a great host and a very nice person. The walk from the subway or tram (subway card worked for tram) is about 7 minutes. The neighbourhood felt very safe at all hours. The apartment was on the top floor which provided a nice view.
This apartment was really quiet and nice refuge from the city. We didn't spend much time there but there but the space suited us well.
The reservation was canceled 43 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
What an amazing experience!
Aj was very accommodating to my needs. He had everything prepared for the guests and made sure everything went smoothly.
The apartment was very neat. The room itself was huge compared to other locations in NY. Though on an island, the location was perfect, especially for someone who needs to get away from all the noises of the city. The island has a train that goes through it to Manhattan and Queens. There's also a tram that connects you to the city and provides a beautiful view of Manhattan. The island itself is very quaint and tiny. It is under constant patrol so you feel safe at all times. The island provides breathtaking views of Manhattan as well.
Overall, I highly recommend this room, location, and staying with Aj!
The experience was excelent. Aj is a great host, very helpful and made us feel confortable all the time. The neighbourhood is very quiet and the subway works 24h and is close to the apartment, so its possible to go and back to any place at Manhattan. The room is just as the picture, roomy and confortable.
AJ was always communicating quickly in advance of our stay and met us at the apartment on time . Roosevelt Island is perfect for people wanting close proximity to Manhattan but peace and quiet at night. A great natural grocery next door was a big bonus too. The famed island tram and F train are efficient ways to quickly reach the city.
The apartment itself is ok but does need a bit of work. We were not happy at all that we were told on arrival that we could not use the ONLY window in the apartment as the large venetian blinds were broken and could not be raised :( The toilet also continually made sounds due to the tank needing replacement. Furthermore, I am certain that the apartment is not professionally cleaned as there was lots of dust on top of fridge and heater under the bed.... wet dishes in the cabinet and mold in the bathroom. These are all small issues that can easily be fixed/cleaned but when added up, made the apartment feel a bit worn and uncomfortable - perhaps we are too picky but this is an honest review. The price is great and we did enjoy the location too and I think with a bit of work, this place would be fantastic
It is a lovely place: the room is relatively big, with 2 mirrors, air con. There is everything you need in the kitchen. I did not cook, but kept some stuff in the fridge and used microwave. Aj let me use his filter to filter tap water. He was also very friendly and always responded to my messages, even by text (when I was going from the airport). It was also very clean in the room and the bathroom. He does have many rules ( shower preferably in the morning, etc), but it helps to keep the place quiet. I was in NYC for work and really needed to rest and prepare for my stuff. The place was ideal for me. There is no way to get to Manhattan by foot and one had to take either tram (15 min trip altogether), or subway. So, you might consider buying a pass.
Comfortable, clean, safe. Good stay. It was nice to experience a different part of the city as well.
AJ was very understanding in my arrival, as I was completely confused in navigating the subway for the first time, and ended up arriving half an hour after I expected to me there - I appreciated his understanding. Accommodations were as described. Roosevelt Island is easy to get to via the F line, and the appt is a short walk from the station, plus a great little grocery is a couple buildings farther down. My only issue was that the F line was out in one direction, meaning I could easily get downtown, but then in returning to the island, I had to reroute to Queens and then backtrack, which was somewhat frustrating - if possible, I'd suggest checking the MTA website of scheduled line maintenance prior to booking, if you'll be using the subway as your primary mode of transport. It was exceptionally fast to get to all areas of the city, though.
I was there in winter, so I didn't get to enjoy the scenery as much as if I was there in the summer. Looking out the window to the water was very nice, even with all the snow. I typically like staying in shared accommodations when I travel alone so that I have some new people to befriend, but AJs apartment was so quiet that I never saw anyone - AJ and I only crossed paths a couple times. So, if the guest is wanting company, this might not be the place for them. However, if you want very peaceful accommodations, this is the place for you!
As a female with long hair, I was somewhat paranoid about attempting to make sure I didn't leave hair in the bathroom, it kind of gets everywhere. The rules were posted on the door, but I'm one of those antsy 'did I do everything right?' types of people, so having so many clearly marked rules in the bathroom, kitchen, and entry felt somewhat intimidating, especially since there was no one around to make me feel more welcome - that's probably my own paranoia, though.
As a whole, I had a wonderful time at AJs and would recommend it for those who are independent, conscientious, and want somewhere quiet to retreat to at the end of their busy days in New York.
Thank you for hosting me, AJ!
Nice apartment, very quiet. Roosevelt Island is safe !
Aj, was very nice.
