This charming home was a perfect place for our week long annual getaway to Bar Harbor. The outdoor space was peaceful and the home was very charming. Clean, quiet, simple, and pleasant place to rest and enjoy Bar Harbor and Acadia.
My family and I had a wonderful time. The house was cozy with plenty of nooks to read and relax in; the kitchen in particular was well-equipped. Even though we were a fairly sizable group of six, we never felt cramped, and the beds were especially comfortable.
As for the location, that itself can’t be beat. The house was only a five minute walk from Main Street, so it was great to take a relaxing stroll after dinner. It’s also about ten minutes away by car from the major entrances to Acadia National Park, so that was another bonus. (Up until then, we’d always stayed at lodgings at least 45 minutes away from Bar Harbor, so we definitely noticed a world of a difference!) Thank you to Brad and Carla for letting us stay in their home and making us feel like locals, if only for a week!
Our family had a fantastic experience staying at Carla's house in Bar Harbor. The location is perfect - within a quick walking distance to the restaurants, coffee shops and stores on Main Street; near the wading pool, playground and farmer's market; easy hike / run to Great Lawn, Schooner, or Cadillac North Ridge trials; short bike or drive to Carriage Roads. We enjoyed coffee on the front porch in the mornings, grilled and relaxed with the kids in the back yard in the evening, then slept soundly at night in quiet and cozy home.
Carla was kind enough to leave for us some scones from a local bakery as well as some Maine blueberry jam. She also made sure to point out where the lobster pot (a necessity in Maine) and other important tools were. The house was lovely, and just as described. It was a little warmer than we had expected when we were in Maine, but Carla had very thoughtfully provided plenty of fans so we could keep comfortable.
The house is ideally located in Bar Harbor. It's walking distance from basically anything in town (Bar Harbor is not a large town) and the street that the house is on provides easy access to Acadia National Park, which is a beautiful park and has so much to see you won't easily be bored here, unless you're really trying.
The house itself is lovely. There were four of us staying, all adults, and we never felt crowded, with the exception of the fact that there is only one bathroom, which, though rarely, can become an issue. (The bathroom itself is spacious and very nice).
Overall we were very satisfied with our stay here, and would definitely consider it again if we come back to Bar Harbor!
We (my 19 years old son, my 75 years old parents and me, German family) spend 4 nights in this beautiful house. We had a great time there: Carlas recommendations for supermarket, bakeries and outdoor activities were very helpful. We could contact here whenever we had questions. We did not use restaurants in Bar Harbor because it was so lovely to have barbecue in the little garden, sitting outside for dinner. And we could see the 4th of July parade in front of the house! Thank you Carla for that all! It was the first time for my parents in Canada and US and they really loved this place, the Bar Harbour city and Acadia National Park!
Ledgelawn Cottage was perfect for our trip to Bar Harbor to visit our daughter who is studying there at College of the Atlantic. The house is on a lovely street of traditional Maine homes in the middle of town - and so within walking distance of everything - but is also exceptionally quiet and peaceful. This, and the wonderfully comfy bed in the main bedroom, meant that we slept deeply and well. It was just the two of us on this visit so we only used one of the bedrooms (and of course the lovely, generous bathroom with its deep tub and very good shower) but the spacious dining room and sitting room were perfect for 'family' meals and hanging out with our daughter and her friends. We are very enthusiastic cooks and the kitchen at Ledgelawn Cottage is a little rustic - rather than state-of-the-art - but has everything we needed. Sadly we didn't meet Carla, but she is a kind and thoughtful host. From the moment we first made contact she was friendly, exceptionally welcoming and very accommodating. We had a little glitch with the internet but Carla came straight over while we were out that same afternoon and it was fixed on our return! Ledgelawn Cottage is full of paintings, treasures and textiles from Carla and her family's travels; it's a real home, full of character and charm - we loved it and definitely hope to stay here again when we return for graduation in 2014. Thank you, Carla, we had a wonderful time.
Thank you so much for your feedback Franny! We will get that bathroom door knob fixed and glad that the spaces accommodated your needs. We would love to have you again in June.
Take Care! Carla
We had a very nice stay at Carla's home. Her home is charming and the locations is perfect. We would recommend staying here to anyone visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia. We brought kayaks and bikes and a large vehicle so the off-street parking and yard were very nice. We loved cooking in her kitchen!
Carla and her guests were amazing guests! They took great care of our apartment. We would definitely recommend them and if they ever come back to the Philly area we would love to host them again!
Very pleasant guests, made use of the info provided in the most remarkable way; I had a fine time with them; I really enjoyed it! Thank you!
Carla and her family were great guests, very communicative. We hope that they enjoyed their stay in San Francisco.
