For me, what makes a good trip is the good people you meet (and the good food you eat!
What A Great Guy Over-welcoming & Pleasant. An Ideal Location for a True experience of Brooklyn. Khem is an amazing host who doesn't bother you too much but also is accompanying at the same time. HIs place is cozy & Neat We had an Excellent Stay!
My mum and I stayed in Khem's apartment for three weeks while I was on a research trip in the States and we absolutely loved it. From the very beginning he made us feel welcome and by the time the three weeks were up we did not want to leave! The apartment is conveniently located between two subway stops, Utica Avenue and Kingston Throop, both of which will get to you to Manhattan in between 30 to 40 mins. The apartment itself was always warm and there was plenty of space for two people to live and work in comfort. The beds were also super comfortable, the shower was always hot and we had a bountiful supply of fresh towels throughout our stay!
We found Bed-Stuy to be a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood that is most definitely on the up. The brownstone buildings, bars and eateries make it a perfect Brooklyn base within easy reach of both Manhattan and neighbouring areas such as Nostrand, Bedford etc. We are from London and did not feel unsafe when walking around at night etc, however this may differ according to where you are from (i.e. if you are not normally a city dweller!). That said, I travelled to quite a few places in Brooklyn during my stay and found them all fairly similar, and all fine!
On one of our free days we walked all the way along Fulton Street to the Brooklyn Bridge - would definitely recommend this if it is a nice day as it gives you the opportunity to experience some of the other parts of Brooklyn and to savour the amazing views from the bridge itself.
Couple of recommendations:
1.) Don't make the mistake of getting a metre cab from the airport (like we did) - use a company like Eastern Cabs who provide a set rate of $40!
2.) Make sure you eat at Peaches, Saraghina and get brunch at Do or Dine in the nearby Nostrand/Bedford area - all delicious! There are also some great bars near Do or Dine.
All in all we had a fantastic stay in Khem's apartment. He was very friendly, welcoming and helpful and the apartment itself was stylish, comfortable and cosy.
We hope to make it back one day!

You won't find a friendlier host than Khem, he is very laid back and also a very good cook!
He cooks chickens and pork on his barbecue several times a week but if you want to partake, make sure you order in advance.
The apartment which is long and thin in common with most brownstone conversations is long and thin. There was no door on the bedroom which opened onto the kitchen.
The location in Brooklyn is rapidly becoming the place to be. It is very close to trains 'A' and 'C' either of which will whisk you to the centre of Manhattan in a short time, the 'A' being an express.
There are plenty of restaurants and shops in the locality
We moved to NY from London and stayed in Khem’s apartment for the first month.
Khem was very helpful throughout the stay and settling into the US. Thanks for this, Khem :)
The apartment itself is just like in the pictures, airy, bright and quite spacious for a couple (The large bedroom is quite large, the smaller one accommodates a queen bed). It is on the top floor of a typical ‘brown stone’ town house, and as such you share the main entrance with the host. For us it was not a problem, but if you do want more privacy though the ground floor apartment has its own entrance.
The town house is in Bed-Stye neighbourhood, a cool part of Brooklyn which is definitely ‘on the up’. We recommend Peaches for a nice southern cuisine, Saraghina for a nice Italian (not cheap though) and Brunswick for the so-called ‘artisan’ coffee.
Getting into Manhattan takes around 30 minutes to downtown and around 40 minutes to mid-town on the A line from Utica. The C takes longer…
So all in all, we had a good experience in the flat, got to know and love the neighbourhood, and to know cool people like Khem :)
Very welcoming host. The apartment was clean and just as depicted online. However, extremely cold at night (visited in December) in the bedroom and no thermostat. Eventually, the furnace kicked in late in the morning (4 or 5am). Nice accommodations.
Khem couldn't have been a better host. From the first night, we got there late, and he was just keen to help us feel right at home. Even cooking us a delicious dinner, because all the places were closed. He was always there to help us with whatever we needed, and made sure we felt comfortable. He is the nicest person, and we are very glad we got to meet him!
The apartment is just like in the pictures, beautifully (email hidden)d the bed is amazing! Super comfortable! It's very spacious, and has everything you could need, and then (website hidden), WiFi, fully equipped kitchen, large bathroom (with plenty of towels).
The neighbourhood is really nice, full of brownstones. A 7 min walk to the subway lines A and C, which leave you right in Manhattan. We felt safe walking back, even at night. Nothing even came close to happening to us. And the restaurants surrounding the place are just great!! Breakfast at Saraghina was delicious...and I don't know where to start on Peaches. We went twice in 5 days. Delicious.
So if you are looking for a nice place to relax after a long day, and want to feel like a local rather than a tourist...this place is just that! We had a great time!
Khem and his associates were great hosts. My friends and I had a really good time on our stay. We will hope to stay at Khem's on our next visits and recommend you do the same!
