Although we had a fantastic time in Samara, the accommodations were not as advertised. Max was friendly and the building was easy to find. However, the "two bedroom" unit we reserved had only one bedroom and an additional uncomfortable futon in the living room. Oddly, we were one of two families there and there were several two-bedroom units unoccupied. The decor was minimal, so imagine the photos stripped down to bare bones. There was a evening parade of ants in the bathroom that was somewhat entertaining. The kitchen had a few items but insufficient for any real cooking (no spatula for the eggs, no sharp knives...). Although we had fun in the pool, it was unclean, murky, and not as it appears in the photos. The view was decent and town is just down the hill and very accessible. Great location. In hindsight, I wish I had been more demanding about the accommodations living up to what was advertised (two bedrooms, functional wifi.... etc.)
When we arrived, the very nice Katherine, at the front desk was not expecting us. She looked at us like we were crazy for thinking we had a reservation. Eventually after we proved our reservation by showing her the airbnb email, we got a room... the room was in a building next to the building that had been advertised. The advertised 'panoramic view' was none existent. We emailed Max, asking kindly for a refund, since we did not get what we 'signed up for', but we never heard back from him. The room in the building with the view would not be ready for over a week. The room we were stuck in was old, run down and full of small and big ants. When we first checked in there were a lot a dead ants (a good thing, indicating they had sprayed). There were also dead cocker roaches. It did not appear that this room got rented much, much less cleaned. The laundry for the entire building was right outside our bedroom window, so we would wake to the sound of laundry and talking between maids, sometimes as early as 7:40am.
We booked a room with a kitchen so we could cook, but the 2 burners did not work. There was one portable burner in its place. That did not matter since we would not cook in there (too dirty).
We finally got moved to a room with the beautiful view-8 days later, and a functional kitchen. But, it was not the 2 bedroom that we paid for, it was only 1 bedroom. We are supposed to be getting 10% back for our troubles...
All we wanted was to leave soo badly and go elsewhere.. but we were ignored.
The reservation was canceled 51 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
