Despite me bending over backwards to help her, Alison left a disappointing and in my opinion completely unfair review. Despite me having over 100 positive reviews, Alison deemed my accommodation 'not appropriate to let out to others'. Despite admitting in her review that I had emailed her to explain what AirBnB is and to check that she realised this was my home with my stuff in it, Alison claimed to be 'not at all prepared for this', which makes no sense when she admitted I'd told her. And despite my making a courtesy call to her during her stay - during which she assured me that everything was fine - she complained that the furniture was old (yes, there are some antiques in the apartment. It is a Victorian house and they fit nicely) the bed was uncomfortable (nobody ever said that before and I would have brought her a mattress topper for more comfort if she'd told me), there was no space to put anything (I'd cleared out half my wardrobe and three drawers and left a travel wardrobe in the back room) and that my apartment is 'a student flat' (which I think is offensive). She also stated that I should charge 'one third the price'. My rate is in keeping with similar Airbnb properties in the area and I have never had any complaints about that until now. All in all I feel Alison wanted a 5* holiday apartment in central Brighton by the beach in high season for £58.33 a night. Sorry Alison but that's just not at all realistic. Had you alerted me at any point to your dissatisfaction I would have done anything I could to help. But you chose not to tell me and just leave a bad review. That's hardly fair. When I returned to the apartment the beds were stripped (I ask guests not to do that in the house manual), I found old food and a half empty bottle of champagne, the pots and pans were put back all in the wrong place, the crockery was not washed properly and had to be redone, and the bin was overflowing. I've never had a guest leave the place in that state. A dirty protest...?
