My wife and I enjoyed seven days here for our honeymoon. We loved the privacy and accommodations at the Palmyra. The condo was romantic and had everything we needed. Exactly as advertised.
Sharon went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. She helped me surprise my wife with flowers and champagne upon our arrival- a real treat!
The Palmyra is not walking distance to restaurants and attractions so we decided to rent a car. We shopped at Progressive Grocer in Montego Bay and drove ourselves to various activities in Negril, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. When we went to the club or for drinks, the concierge helped to arrange a free shuttle or paid taxi.
The Palmyra in the summer (and potentially other times during the year) has very few guests- especially on week days. We absolutely loved this feature. We felt like royalty with a private beach and pool. While the poolside bar/grill was not operating, we brought our own drinks and snacks poolside. Any insecurity we had about the lack of other people was mitigated by the Palmyra's security and welcoming staff.
As other posts have mentioned, one of the three buildings at the Palmyra is unfinished. While this initially felt strange, after spending a day on the island we quickly realized this was the norm everywhere you went. It is not an indication of lower quality or safety. We learned that many of these buildings are unfinished because the respective financiers' cash dried up. When the cash returns, the buildings will be completed.
We'll be watching to see what happens to this place in the next few years and will hopefully return to relive our first week as husband and wife.
Sharon was a great host! Made sure we were taken care of, and the property was exactly as she described and pictured: Gorgeous! We will definitely go back and stay again.
Our 16 night stay at the Palmyra was just what we were looking for - a quite, luxurious, private getaway in Montego Bay. Although the resort is officially not operational (no restaurant, bar or hot tub), the unit we stayed in was beautiful and the services exceptional. There is a small building and pool adjacent to the Palmyra and a catering company offers a very limited menu with a chef. They let you swim at that pool as well - it has an amazing view and the food is a nice break from cooking (burgers, hot dogs, jerk chicken, beer, sodas). Sharon provided maid service for us from the resort staff several times during our stay, the front desk staff helped us find great restaurants and sight seeing destinations (recommend Negril - Rick's Café for sure), and the driver recommended by Sharon, Malcolm, was fabulous. Malcolm was always at our service, so nice and accommodating, and even gave us history talks about everything we were curious about. Ask Sharon for his # - he's so kind, considerate, a great driver and his rates were very reasonable! The resort also has an amazingly beautiful swimming pool with a lifeguard (Violet & Giovianni). The beach is beautiful - we had it almost entirely to ourselves for our entire trip - we maybe saw 6-10 people on the beach during our 16 days. We had packed a portable cooler with us and each day we filled it with chips/salsa and margaritas and headed to the beach or pool. We also took along a Bluetooth speaker so we had music at the beach - great idea! Towels are provided for the beach. There is a small exercise room next to the pool area with an elliptical machine - the staff will open the room for you if it isn't already open. Security made us feel very safe in the very empty facility. They check every car in and out of the resort 24/7 and there is always someone walking the grounds. The view from our balcony was nice - overlooks the pool area and the view of the ocean is good. The bed in the room was amazingly comfortable and the shower/tub very luxurious. The kitchen is pretty well stocked with dishes for cooking (if you prefer to eat in) and there's a microwave, stove, large fridge/freezer, coffee maker . Malcolm took us to the grocery store where we found everything we needed. So if you're looking for a quite vacation with a beautiful, calm ocean front setting and a very nice one bedroom apartment - this is a great choice. The only slightly negative about the hotel is the elevator and lack of a restaurant/bar. The regular elevator doesn't work so we had to use the service elevator - which was fine - just takes you through the service exit to the pool area. Thank you Sharon for a fabulous vacation!
The reviews on this property are accurate in that Palmyra is not a hotel and it is a condo development now. If you want a very private vacation, as in you will not see more than 3 people during your stay, this is the place for you. For me and my kids; it felt like The Shining; a bit creepy. It is a huge complex and only 2 of the 3 towers are finished and the 3rd building is an eye sore. The layout of the complex is very funky; but the pool area and the ocean front are beautiful. You will need to rent a car; and be sure to stop by the Progressive Grocery store near the airport and stock up on all supplies. Derrick at the front desk was very helpful. it is a shame that this development is so empty. It really is a nice building and has so much potential, but it seems like they cannot afford to maintain it any longer. For the price and location - is a good value; but just beware that it does feel very empty so if that does not bother you; this is a nice choice. Although I did not meet Sharon; she was very flexible on our check-in and check out times. Thank you!
Our first time in Jamaica and the Palmyra is one of the main reason we will return. The staff were super friendly (the concierges, lifeguard, security). The view from the condo was breathtaking. The beautiful and very private beach was such a therapeutic escape. One of the best pools I've experienced (enjoyed my solo lap swimming every morning). The Ritz-like ambiance of the property without the big crowds of the resorts is an accurate description. We enjoyed Jamaican cuisine every night during our week stay and there were many restaurants nearby to choose from. Our host, Sharon was very responsive.
Sharon's place is the ideal getaway if you are looking for quite and peaceful. What we saw on the pictures is what we walked into. The place is spacious and clean and has a fully equipped kitchen which comes in handy. Both the beach and pool areas are amazing for relaxing and taking in the sun. With few guests at any one time there are always ample lounge chairs to find. It is true that there is very little in walking distance but a short cab ride will get you to restaurants or the grocery store. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and helpful. One thing to mention is that there is a so called Bar and Grill attached to the property that works from the am until 6pm. It seems appealing when you don't feel like going out to get food and just grab a burger and drink there....our advice is DONT. They are overpriced (12$USD) for a burger and the greasiest fries you've ever eaten! Beers are 5$ while at the grocery store $1.20 and the thing is beer is not even that expensive at the most expensive restaurants in MoBay. On our last day my wife asked for the burger with a substitute of a salad and we were told no problem and that we would get a discount. In the end they charged us 30$ for one side salad and two burgers! A bit steep considering quality was questionable. Just wanted to give others a heads up to avoid it if you can....we wish we had. Especially since aside rom price my wife had some stomach issues after eating there the last time. But aside from that, every restaurant we went to we loved! Our entire stay was incredible and Sharon was helpful and always available. The staff at the Palmyra were also always available! Overall we highly recommend you spend your MoBay trip at Sharon's place!!
Beautiful and luxurious apartment in an almost deserted condo project, as others have mentioned. Nice beach and pool, (although hot tub is closed), No conveniently walkable restaurants, although many just a couple of miles away. Neat little beach surf causeway to a bungalow off the beach.
Loved staying at this apartment! It is all that the ad said it would be.
High class, friendly staff, extremely quiet. We had the beach to ourselves. If you want to be secluded in luxury, this place is for you.
Please remember this is an APARTMENT. You are not staying at an all-inclusive. There is no food on site. You will want to RENT a CAR and need to get your own groceries.
We would definitely go back.
Sharon was very responsive if we had any questions. We had trouble with the wi-fi, but it was resolved with in a couple hours of our arrival.
I would definitely recommend this place!
Hi Brette, thanks for you great review and I am glad that you stressed that this is an apartment not a resort even though it looks and feels one. I will definately put in hand soap. Come back and visit us in the future.
Very seldom are my expectations exceeded, but this was certainly one of them. It is true that the resort is no longer operative and subsequently one should plan their meals and outings carefully. Having said that, Sharon's place is just another tier of heaven. The views, the luxury and the tranquility are just to die for. I stayed at Sharon's place during a last minute trip. Like really last minute. Sharon had only two days notice yet the place was ready, immaculate and comfortable. I can't say enough about grounds, the pool, the beach and all the privacy. Fully recommend Sharon and her little piece of heaven.
A little PSA announcement: I was concerned about my trip after reading some of
these reviews, but Sharon ensured that all was perfect, so allow me to update you. The wireless internet was great and required nothing extra, the condo was well supplied with tp and other necessities and I had not problem with mosquitos. I would just recommend that you remember you are going to the Sable Palm and enunciate clearly so you don't end up at the Silver Palm, like I did. It was my mistake, but despite that Sharon went above and beyond the call of duty to rectify the issue. Thank you, Sharon!!!
Lastly, the staff on grounds are few, but very friendly and helpful. Derrick and Patrima at the concierge desk were so very helpful and even negotiated to get me a lower cab fare rate on their own. Simply amazing people at an amazing place! Will certainly visit again.
This is a luxury, high-end resort that has had severe financial setbacks. I commend Sharon and others for hanging in there and making their units available through Airbnb. Amenities such as the pool and hot tub were not functioning while we were there, and there were a few power outages (which we were informed of in advance). That said, we very much enjoyed our stay. The beach is beautiful and we had it to ourselves. It was relaxing and quiet and beautiful. I would happily return in the future.
