The absolute best location for visiting d.c. and seeing the sights from the comfort of your comfortable home with concierge, computer center, lounge, gym, etc.
Easy walk to capital, Smithsonian, convention center.
We will definitely return.
Second positive experience staying at the Avalon in Chinatown on business travel. Very convenient location (2 blocks from Chinatown metro/ red and green lines), plenty of nearby (easy walking distance) restaurants and grocery stores, etc. Apartment itself is clean, modern, corporate-style apartment with washer and dryer in the unit, and a reasonably-equipped fitness center in the building. Would definitely stay again! Also, very easy to communicate with Andy, who was very accommodating when I needed a last-minute one-week extension.
The reservation was canceled 26 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I had a very hassle-free stay in this apartment in Jan 2013. A lot of pros: All-City staff responsive by email, easy check-in and key arrangements at front desk, clean apartment with full-size kitchen, gym in building, internet/cable included, very convenient location two blocks from Gallery Place/Chinatown metro (red/green/yellow lines). As others have noted, this is a corporate-style furnished apartment, so it is not as cozy and decorated as a lot of apartments on AirBnB - feels like a hotel suite, but a great value for money in downtown DC. If you are staying several months, it is great. If you are only staying a week or two, keep in mind that you will have to buy all the basics (toilet paper, garbage bags, salt, pepper, etc.). Overall, was a positive experience and I would return for a longer stay.
I stayed in this apartment for the month of November and I absolutely enjoyed my stay.
At arrival the apartment was clean and welcoming. It is a small but very bright place, modern kitchen and lots of storage. Enough space to keep everything stored, even when you arrive with lots of clothing. It is corporate housing so it is not your usual "AirBnb private apartment" experience. That means you get a full kitchen but no extras (salt, pepper, etc - anything you would expect in a private apartment).
The building is new, a little on the upscale side with big size gym, 4 elevators, new laundry machines and a professional concierge.
There was nothing I did not like about the apartment (other than maybe a few more hangers).
The area is great, right between everything so you can walk everywhere. Some noted you need a cab to go anywhere but truth to be told - it's a 15min walk to Georgetown, U-Street, the White House, etc. The red metro station is 3 min but I ended up walking 10min to the blue line since it got be straight to work without transferring. There are dozens of fantastic restaurants around and we really went to the same place twice. Being a coffee snob I spend significant time to find the best coffee shop in town and I found "Filter" on 20th hands down the best in down - just 7 min walk from the apartment.
A few notes: As other reviews indicated, there is a garbage truck coming between 7-7:15, 6 days a week. Most days I was up already but the few days I was able to sleep in, the truck woke me up because I like sleeping with open windows. Close them and you can barely hear it. Sound travels well in the round courtyard so if someone has a party on their balcony, you will hear it.There is no recycling in the building - which I found is a shame.
There are many many people with dogs in the building. All well behaved and I never heard one bark. For me this is an upside since I like dogs but others might have a different opinion.
None of that would make me hesitate to come back - I certainly will stay there again.
Apartment was as advertised- comfortable and appropriately furnished. Desks were added as we requested, although the second took several days. Building services were fine. Main problem was contact - it took many calls and several days to get answers requests for extra towels and hangers. WIFI worked for the first few weeks, then went down for a week most of the day, and it took many calls and long delays to get attention. This lack of response caused much frustration, and threatened to spoil the visit. Unless we are assured that it has been corrected, we are unlikely to use Andy Motts again.
I spent a very comfortable, hassle free week in Washington DC with easy access to transport, restaurants, sights and the Conventipon Centre.
We loved the apartment location in the heart of Dupont (website hidden) Metro is just 2 blocks away and everything you need is within walking distance. We also appreciated the built in safety feature the building offers by needing a special key card for the elevator. The apt is perfect for a couple looking to relax and cook while in DC. The apt is stocked with plenty of items needed for cooking, wine glasses, cutting board, coffee pot, etc. There is also a hair dryer, so you don't need to pack your own. The only disappointments were that the sheets on the bed and one set of towels were dirty when we arrived. Andy immediately rectified this by sending new sheets and towels the following day. Two sets total of sheets and towels are provided. There was construction in the area while we were there and it was extremely noisy outside starting very early in the morning. This definitely puts a damper on sleeping in. We were on the 7th floor facing the pool. The noise was coming from trash trucks and others accessing the dumpsters that happen to be on that same side of the building. Otherwise we had a fantastic stay and will probably try one of Andy's other properties in the future!
First experience w/ airbnb, but it will not be the last. Pretty smooth organization between airbnb and Andy regarding planning and details w/ minimal hassle factor.
Andy's DC place is a great deal. Clean and modern 1BR apt. Nice kitchen, The deal part of this place is location. Steps from subway. Less than 10 minute, enjoyable walk to convention center. Verizon Center around the corner. All sort of shops and restuarants around the corner.
Someone else said it best, "this place makes you feel like a local...living in your DC condo." The alley noise thing is minimal and a benefit to city living. Afterall, it beats cat fights all night long .
Next time in DC, I am headed back here.
Great place and location.
Easy access and would definitely stay again. Just wish there were more towels.
