Great place to stay: "cute and charming townhouse" is accurate advertising; nicely decorated; slept family of four easily; short drive to most parts of Seattle; friendly and responsive host.
The bar next door is noisy, but they closed the outdoor patio at 9pm. Unfortunately, there was a fight outside one night, with police cars and all, but hey, it's the city.
Best to arrive in the daylight, since it's a little hard to find in the dark.
James was a fantastic host. He accepted our response within a couple hours and as promised sent us a wonderful information package which detailed how to get into his house and everything else (TV, bbq, heat lamp, etc.) and everything worked out well. The beds we're comfortable and the place was very clean and we loved their patio.
The neighbourhood was good and you're next to a bar so it can get a little loud but it was no problem for us; it was great knowing we were only a 10 second walk away from getting a beer/meal. Secondly, you're only about a 5 minute walk from the #3 (I think) bus which takes you right to pike place in about 20 minutes AND you're a $10 cab ride to Safeco Staidum. Also close to their place is a grocery store which worked well when you realized you forgot some ingredients for dinner.
A very beautiful home in a cool, pratical location. The patio is indeed a pretty excellent place to relax. The bar next door is noisy in the summer, until 9 pm; the bar's pretty cool though, so if you can't beat them, join them. Communication with James was easy and straightforward. We were a bit disappointed that the house wasn't cleaner and more prepared for our arrival (e.g. sheets on the second bed).
The townhouse is really cute. James and Claire have done a great job with it. It's not big but the space is used very smartly. The backyard is lovely, as other reviewers noted; it was a great stop to just unwind. James was very easy to communicate with and great at troubleshooting unforeseen issues. I can't say much about the location cause we were in town for business, so we really didn't get to walk around the neighborhood but having a parking spot was definitely a huge plus. My biggest issue with the place was that it was right next door to a bar/restaurant (and its outdoor terrace). During the colder months that's probably not a problem but we were there during the possibly warmest week in Seattle so the place next door was hopping until late into the evening. And it was LOUD.
The house was nicely decorated and had enough space for our family. It was in a convenient location and had three beds if needed. The hosts had a very comfortable bed set up in the extra bedroom. On the negative side it wasn't as clean as I would like. It was also very noisy at night and the extra bedroom was filled with so much light you could not sleep in past sunrise. It would be a nice place to stay if noise or light doesn't bother you while sleeping.
I loved this place! The apartment itself was very inviting. The decor inside was awesome and everything was very clean and neatly organized. One of my favorite parts of the apartment was the enclosed patio out back. I spent each evening we were in Seattle in this little sacred place- it's wonderful for reading! When we arrived we found a lovely note and bottle of wine from James and his wife Claire- both which made us feel right at home. James was easy to connect with and very quick at responding to emails, texts, and phone calls. He makes for a great host! The neighborhood which this apartment is nestled in is just a couple miles outside the heart of Seattle- making it easy to get around. This neighborhood wasn't quite as busy and loud as other parts of the city, making it great for relaxing and quiet evenings. Overall this provided for a great first Air B&B experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a spot to stay in Seattle!
Early contacts with James were very pleasant communications and he was most conscientious about paying for additional people. We are thinking some emergency must have arisen since the group left earlier than checkout on their last day leaving a coffeemaker turned on and an indoor bench outside. Perhaps just a consequence of a very small cabin, bad weather and extra bodies. Anyhow, overall pleasant with a few issues.
Yes sorry about that Carolyn and Don! There was actually a tornado warning and a terrible rain/hail storm and we were concerned about roads flooding on our trip back to Seattle so we made haste leaving. Sorry for any inconvenience!
James was a very nice guest. I hardly saw him actually, but he was respectful and well, he's got a good vibe.
