I had a great experience at la tortuga azul. It is a wonderful location, close to the beach, ferry terminal and bus station in a quiet area just far enough away from the standard tourist stops. Jose was a great host, very welcoming and friendly. He hung out with all of the guests and helped us find fun places to eat and go out. Next time I am in Playa I would love to stay here again.
The internet was very fast. They had several places to hang around and chill. It was one of cleaner hostels I've stayed at. The main problem at this hostel at least while I was here was the noise, although it was a Friday night. Neighbors had a fiesta next door. During day there was a construction project next door. The door to the hostel bedroom often shut really loud when someone left/ entered room due to wind I think. The room did have good airflow which is not always found in a hostel. It was also spacious and not cramped. I would definitely give this hostel another try as they were very welcoming and friendly to all their guests.
It is a nice place to crash for a few nights. Standard hostel. Staffs are really nice here.
Jose made me feel immediately welcome during my short stay. I appreciate his hospitality & willingness to answer any question I may have had.
The staff at La Tortuga Azul Carey: Bed 2 were very helpful. I was greeted by friendly staff and one employee (Rodrigo) even took me out to get tacos, when I first arrived. I was very hungry! José was very helpful with things to do that were off the beaten path. My bed was very comfortable, which was great after long days of traveling/walking. I would recommend this hostel to others that find themselves in Playa Del Carmen. I would return to La Tortuga Azul Carey: Bed 2 when I find myself passing through. My stay was 8 nights and my bed was great!
Nice, quiet and clean hostel. I really enjoyed my stay and deeply appreciated that they help me find a taxi at 4AM to go back to the airport :)
My son stayed at Jose's place on an excursion from Cozumel. He said Jose's place was clean, safe, convenient and that Jose was very nice and helpful. Jose even met him at the bus station near the ferry to direct him to the hostel. He met many other young people from around during his stay there and said they were all friendly and he enjoyed their company. He said he would highly recommend Jose and would definitely stay there again.
José and his father were great hosts. They were always happy to offer advice and assistance on any topic.
The building is very clean, and exactly as described. It's located a short walk out of the hotel area, which was perfect for me, as it allows the chance to actually be among locals and to explore the city beyond the strip.
